Yes, this could keep ticket increases in check as a 15% increase would likely result in a lots of opt outs. I am unclear if there are any increases over last season. I believe last season it cost me $11 154 which was including a $200 discount for adding a year to my SSH. So it would have cost $11 354 - My invoice for next season would be $11 424 so an increase of $70 if my math is correct.

My beef with the payment options plan has always been they take your $$$ in advance of the season and overlap with a long playofff run. Where some other teams pay $$$$ during the season instead of prior to and then add playoff costs that don't overlap. I guess for 2% there is the monthly plan.

My seats are going up $1.50 per game. Worked out to just over 2% increase.

On the whole opt out thing... I thought they had passed negative billing laws in Canada?? Or is this a fine enough line to not cross?

Good point about the billing.
I am also up $1.50 a seat or $3.06 a pair based on a pair of seats for a 44 game season including pre season. Is there any information regarding 41 games and 3 pre-season games? or is the bait and swicth that this is for 41 games and no pre -season games thus increasing the costs more than 2%?

Edit: preseason is included: Each Ticket purchased as part of a Season Plan represents a revocable license that enables an individual to enter the premises of Canada Life Centre on the day of the NHL preseason or regular season hockey game (but expressly not an NHL playoff game) played by the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre and to occupy the seat location shown thereon for that date.

Our seats are increasing $334/seat (4.4%)….very underwhelmed by the new program. New STH program is the old STH program. Lipstick on a pig.

Where are the seats located that are going up double 4.4% compared to other areas of the building around 2%? I am located in the lower bowl corners attack zone.

Reading thru the new ticket agreement:

Basic difference is... instead of telling the Jets by renewing that you want to continue being a STH and if you don't renew you are out.... in the new plan you have 1 month each season to opt out ( in writing ) and if you don't opt out , it is automatically renewed.

No restriction on price increases.

Oh lovely, negative option billing. If you want to receive these seats, SIMPLY DO NOTHING! Welcome to the Columbia House Season Ticket Club.

My four P4 seats that are shared with a group went up $868.00 from $18,848.00 to $19,716.00 for a 4.6% increase this year. Rumour has it True North's angle going forward is different price increases for each level instead of "standard" similar increases across the board. Some people are gonna have major increases over the next few years while others will be minor. Will be interesting to see how the market reacts but I think True North needs to be really really careful here because there are a ton of us who are already feeling alienated and unappreciated and these selectively major increases sprinkled around can easily erode the remaining goodwill that some of us have. When they run out of people to alienate it will be scary.

FYI, for those keeping track, the first season way back in the day there were also 3 preseason and 41 regular season games and my 4 tickets were $13,904.00. That's a $5,812.00 increase or 41.8% overall. I don't think I need to pull out my tax returns to see that wages haven't gone up at the same rate. And considering our average ticket price was I think 2nd highest in the league already back in the day something will eventually have to give. I love the Jets, I have no problem paying good money to support them, but eventually people have to prioritize things and Jets spending is pretty easy to cut when you can pick and choose any game you want to see and leave the Tuesday -40 in February against Arizona type games behind.

Sorry for the double post, but I wonder if the trend in sports attendance in the coming years will continue towards more premium seating with lower capacity essentially cutting out the sports middle class? Cheap basic seats in the upper deck with more comfortable larger seats in the lower bowl? I know at my age and physical condition my knees can't handle the sardine can style regular P4 seats and I for one would be comfortable with the tradeoff of bigger increases if it meant being more comfortable. Hopefully the tall foreheads at True North realize that if we aren't already at the limit of what this market will bear we are pretty damn close and they will need some kind of real tangible incentives for people to keep supporting them financially. I vote bigger seats for more money, screw the middle class lol !!!!

This is what I told them I would prefer. Make a decision on if you're in for the next year or not on a year to year basis. When I want out I'll let you know. If you don't hear from me just automatically re-up us. It couldn't be easier and requires much less of a commitment than having to decide if you're coming back from multiple years at a time.

I like that change as a season ticket holder.

Year to year renewals are fine but I'm a firm believer that people should have to opt in, not out. I thought as a society we had reached the point where consent must be clearly stated, not assumed.

Much like when mobile providers started incentivising people w/free phones etc to discontinue grandfathered unlimited data contracts, TNSE too wants dangle a couple of incentives like prize draws to allow them to break existing STH contracts. It's better for THEIR bottom line, not ours. Our group seats under the new proposal would go up over 6%. Have both upper and lower bowls seating. Here is comparison per seat.
Upper Bowl Attack/Half Season:
2021/22 $1,561.41
2022/23 $1,660
Increase 6.3%
Lower Bowl Attack/Full Season:
2021/22 $5,465.46
2022/23 $5,835
Increase 6.8%
We are considering riding out the existing agreements because its maxed at 5% increases & we'll get back deposit money eventually when they expire. But we're torn on Half-Season because it has the added incentive of granting rights to Playoff tickets each year vs every second.

I think this is exactly where pro sports is going.

It wouldn't shock me if in the next decade Canada Life Place is renovated and seating capacity is reduced to ten thousand with extra wide seats.

These premium lower bowl seats for the ultra-wealthy and the corporations would include concierge service and even assigned parking.

Unlike the 80's, all Jets games are on TV in 4k with surround sound.

So, I think most non-wealthy fans will choose to stay at home and watch the game there or at the bar.

One thing to consider is that the Jets were discounting SSH who added an extra year in lieu of the missed season.

As I posted above my season seats were to be $11 354 but we only paid $11 154 as we were discounted $200 for adding an extra year. I only calculated my price increase from the $11354 that I was suppose to pay and not what I actually paid because of the discount.

So it went from $11354 to $11424 - The price % increase would have been slghtly larger if I calculated the increase from my discounted price. 2.5%

I do recall that a few times the Jets did some larger increases in some areas of the arena and tried to bring everyone "in line" as in paying the same amount for the same seats.

For whatever reason attackzone corners/ends does not appear to be going up much this season. Some areas of the building seem to be getting hit harder with price increases than others.

Edit: what I do find sneaky and disengenuous is the fact that they arent spelling out what the price increase is if you cancel and what the price increase is if you stay under your current SSHA. Almost like the guy who runs the team is in the car/used car business.

The year by year decision is fine, but you should have to tell them you are going for another year by actually renewing. IE: You get an email asking you to renew if you want to continue . If you happen to ignore the email or forget about it because life gets busy, then you are out.

It should never be the opposite. If I forget I got the opt-out email, I shouldn't be on the hook for thousands of dollars for something I may not want. I should absolutely have to tell the team I want in, not that I want out.

This is the law in Manitoba:

"negative option marketing"
means, a practice in which a supplier

(a) provides goods or services to a consumer — including an enhancement to a service that the consumer is already receiving — that the consumer did not request; and

(b) requires the consumer to pay for the goods or services unless the consumer informs the supplier that the consumer does not want them. (« commercialisation par abonnement par défaut »)

- No supplier shall supply goods or services to a consumer using negative option marketing.
- A consumer is not liable to pay for any goods or services received under negative option marketing.
- A consumer has no legal obligation or liability respecting the use, loss or disposal of goods received under negative option marketing.
- A consumer who pays for goods or services supplied using negative option marketing may demand a refund from the supplier within one year after making the payment, as long as the consumer did not expressly acknowledge to the supplier in writing his or her intention to accept the goods or services.

So the last bullet point covers the situation you're talking about where they would issue you a refund if you forgot you were giving up your season tickets.

It's a pretty big decision to keep your tickets or not so I don't believe that anyone would forget to send a message to True North telling them not to renew their tickets the following year. I don't believe that there is an opt out window where you have to wait for a certain date to tell them. If I didn't want my season tickets next year I could email them today to tell them not to renew and that would be it.

I have lots of things that operate on an annual automatic renewal. (Winnipeg Free Press, The Athletic, gym membership, etc.) I like that it just keeps happening until I tell it to stop. This change makes my life simpler than having to make multi year commitments so I think it is an improvement. If I ever decide to give up my season tickets it will be a very large decision like getting a divorce. It isn't something that would just slip my mind so this is a non issue for me, as a season ticket holder.

I speak with my wallet and buy the tickets. I don't believe that everyone in this thread does the same.

I gave up my half season tickets going into this season not because I felt unappreciated or taken for granted, but because it was simply costing me more than I felt it was worth to me. I have become the kind of fan who goes to 5 or 6 games a year and watches the rest on TV.

I have to say the process of leaving my half seasons was expedited a bit by the arrival of the WHL. My full season ICE tickets (32 games) costs roughly 1/4 of of my half-season Jets tickets (23 games including preseason). To me the entertainment value of both are roughly on par with each other. Jets games do have a grandiosity that the WHL obviously can't match, but that is offset by significantly lower prices, significantly higher convenience and a lot of nice perks. Having an excellent winning team obviously helps too. So at least there are some alternatives for those who want an entertaining night out watching hockey but don't want to deal with Jets prices for tickets and everything else.

Jr hockey is great. I got into it more after jets 1.0 left. It's much like the college football scene.... always fresh and new.

The lack of restriction on price increases interests me. Am I better to stay in my current agreement until 2024 with a menial 5% increase limit or should I opt-into the "new and improved Membership Program" 🤔

It's been a minute since I've logged into this site, what did I miss? 😜 Hi again!

Opt out is pretty much standard practice in any type of business arrangement. Get a magazine, CAA, virus protection for your computer everything is opt out. Your 5 year GIC comes due, the bank reinvests in another 5 year GIC unless you tell them different. They don't just mail you a check.

its difficult to overstate how badly season ticket holders in canada are treated. look at the packages people get in the US, or for Soccer in the UK if you want to make the argument that they have to "entice" people for hockey in the south.

If I was living back home I'd never give TNSE my money as a season ticket holder considering how they totally neglect them.

Just say no to troughs. Peeing at a trough is a non-starter for me, literally. I need privacy or I clench. Urinals with dividers are barely acceptable, but if there are people milling about behind me anxiously waiting for my spot, again... clench. I'm sorry, I'm old and I can't blast the fire hose anymore. Give me the sanctity of a stall every time.

I lived in Winnipeg for the first 26 years of my life and was a Season Ticket Holder of the WHA Jets. My career took me to Toronto in 1973 (I hated the Leafs then and still do). and am currently living in Calgary. I jumped at the chance to become a Jets season ticket holder (1 seat in a 6 seat group} when they were resurrected in 2011. Its evolved since then so that I now have two seats. My daughter who lives in Winnipeg looks after the distribution of them for me.

I will be renewing. My fear is that this is the first step in a "graceful" exit of the team from my home town. I'm cheering that everyone continues to support the team Go Jets Go.

I have no immediate plans to stop being a season ticket holder, but I am feeling unappreciated.

Earlier this season they announced a"new" season ticket benefit program, which would replace the cancelled Jets Rewards. In it, they said there would be a free exclusive gift, but I've received nothing.

I've not won a single contest, so that perk amounts to nothing for me. I loved Jets Rewards. With Jets Rewards, I used to get a ton of points for being a STH (plus all the extra points I could scrounge up over the year) , and I used them for all sorts of cool things, including free concert tickets, signed merchandise, upgrades to row 1, etc. We also used to get a package with a key chain, puck, lanyard, etc. Now we get Nothing. Just a concession discount card that I can't even pass on to share partners.

Also keep in mind that earlier this season, to sell tickets, the Jets enticed fans with packages of 2 tickets and 2 pro jerseys for $222.

2 jerseys for buying 2 tickets. I bought 88 tickets and they can't give me a keychain? As if they can't send me something worthwhile every year. It really doesn't cost that much to make a season ticket holder feel special. This nickel and diming is SO counterproductive. They are and will continue to lose customers this way. The perks now are close to nil and the prices have exceeded inflation and wage growth almost every year.

Man, I've been a very loyal STH since the beginning, but they sure don't seem to be rewarding that loyalty anymore.

On the flipside, I really don't want to stop being a season ticket holder. The Jets are a big part of my life and I don't want them to ever leave town again. I just want them to smarten up and be friendlier to their most loyal customers.

Also, any discontent I have has nothing to do with on-ice performance. I realize there will always be ups and downs with performance and success is never guaranteed.
