So we just had the World Youth Championships, a team consisting of mostly Ontario players called Maroon hockey finished 2nd at the tournament.

Once again, Alex McLean and Braidy Wassilyn were standouts all tournament long. Wassilyn in paticular continues to convince me the he‘s the early favourite for #1.

So some players from maroon hockey that stood out:

Jacob Ceranic (G)
Beckham Edwards
Callum Croskery (D)
Ben Bowen
Ethan Belchetz
Tyler Challeger

Then here we’re the scoring leaders from Maroon:

View attachment 706400

Other Ontario kids with impressive performances include
Nathan Amasovski
Max Crete
Lucas Amborosio
Dima Zhilkin
Javian Nei

Max Dube
Troy Patton
I wanted to highlight the play of these two kids in paticular. Dube finished with 14 points, Patton 11 and the next highest scorer on their team had 5 points. This shows a disparity in talent, and they enjoyed amazing tournaments. Dube in paticular coukd be a #1 contender.
Thanks for sharing. I know that there were several '07's that were drafted this year in priority draft that had to choose between this event and their ohl orientation skates.

One thing to note on Dube. He is on third team in three years. Playing for Barrie this year now after a year with Quinte and Kingston.

For those Cambridge kids mentioned, was able to watch them a number of times against various opponents.

Baker is a solid player, strong heads-up skater with the puck, likes to play the body (happened less in u15 than u14, as the size of the opponents has caught back up to him, we'll see how physical he remains in u16). As eluded to, Cambridge doesn't have much there, so Baker get's a tonne of ice time. Perhaps because there isn't much to work with, his game comes across as 'selfish' at times
Cunningham has left and is gone to Guelph (OMHA) (so you can be assured Baker will get even more ice time on the point)
Schauss has left and gone to Kitchener (Alliance). As noted, he seemed to play all the 'harder' opponents and wasn't happy with work load distribution.
Taraborelli looks very strong technically, but his stats may have benefited from getting most of the games against 'weaker' opponents (ie. Kitchener and Brantford games where he may have had 10 shots against). He appears to be back in Cambridge, but he also hasn't really skated since the Alliance Championship weekend, when he suffered a leg injury.

I concur Gaitens in Hamilton is a very solid DMan, but we won't see him in Alliance anymore because, as mentioned, the new Hamilton Steel will be playing in OMHA

Another DMan, that Alliance seems to have lost, that was in Waterloo last year, is Sam Mirda. Hearing he may have ended up in Halton

Barrie looks like they will have quite the team this year. They've also apparently brought in 2 players from Greater Sudbury region. Ryker Young who played Defense for 08' Soo Greyhounds, and goaltender Mateo Beites, who played up in U16 for the Sudbury Nickel Caps.

Also heard they got Chitaroni from that Soo team as well.
Did they loose a few guys tho? I heard Emmerton, Amindovski are moving on as well as the import goalie from last year.

So much for homegrown talent Barrie is becoming the GTHL with all these imports lol

Emerton is joining Vaughan. But have heard Amidovksi and Hawery both staying in Barrie.

And have also heard the 3 northern kids are joining the team as well

Draft Day 08s being played in Toronto this weekend.

Wassilyn comes as advertised -- best offensive talent in Ontario in the age group. Would take a lot to change my mind.

Guys worth adding to the next edition (maybe a top 60/80, since the OP as Top-40)

Nathan Amidovski (F) - Barrie
Ryan Chamberlain (F) -- Marlies via Peterborough
Noah Barton (F) - N/A
Maddox Dagenais - Quinte via Kingston
JC Lemieux - N/A
Dylan Orr - N/A

Can we get the stats anywhere? I tried to go through their site and it doesn't work.

FWIW: Alex McLean, Kent Greer, Ethan Belchetz and Braidy Wassilyn are having phenomenal summers. they’re producing at every tournamemt they’re attending.

They’re producing against not only the best in the province but against some of the best talent in the world also.

It sucks that Logan Hawery and Adam Valentini have skipped these events, would like to have seen them head to head.

So, so far we have discussed the following spring tournaments for 2008s:
World Selects Invitational (Nashville) - April 26 - April 30
PlayHockey World Youth Championships - May 5 - May 9
Draftday Prospects Showcase - June 1 - June 4

A few questions for those that follow more closely than I:
1) Have there been any other spring tournaments of note?
2) What other spring tournaments are we looking forward to on the calendar? Kings of Spring?
3) Does anyone want to take a shot at ranking these spring tournaments in order of difficulty of competition? Which tournaments would you pay the most attention to?

Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond - I somewhat forget the OHL section come the offseason.

Firstly I’d like to point out that this is the first year of us returning to normalcy in hockey, for some of these tournaments it’s been 2-3 years since the last one.

Here is a pretty comprehensive website detailing some of the upcoming tournaments. Not all of them will be best on best, but they’re fun to keep track of nonetheless.

As for the tournaments that you have brought up - I’d rank them as such:

#1: WSI - Very Good indication of a plauers talent relative to their peers, it‘s international and has a strong history of showcasing the best talent of any given age group at any given time.

#2: Draft Day
#3: PWYC

@GermanSpitfire Outside of the 24 kids in the GTHL that I culled from your posted list on EP (the one from Feb) - are there any late additions you think I should add?

Below you will find the starter spreadsheet of GTHL players who are eligible for the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. The list of players was graciously provided by @GermanSpitfire - big thanks to GermanSpitfire for not only making the list but allowing me to use it. I've sorted them by the "rank" he has them and attempted to colour code the teams out a bit. I'll probably make another version that has the players sorted by their teams - I feel like the readability is a little rough on this one.
