What I want to see going forward is a higher priority on investing in quality, top-of-the-lineup players.
The bottom pairing and fourth line (at the very least) should be reserved for cost-controlled players. Whether those players come from internal promotions, external reclamation projects, or veterans fit for more limited roles doesn’t matter.
This organization had 10.75M per of cap tied up in Pageau, Cizikas, Clutterbuck, and Martin this year and they have as many points (2!!!) in these playoffs that MacLean and Reilly have while making 1.8M per.
