This changes nothing for the team. Unless Berube can play goalie it is a lateral move.

Marner is gone (hopefully)
Samsonov is out
Rielly has to go
Tavares has to go

A major shake up is in order before Toronto will have any success.

no, he won a cup a few years ago on the back of a goalie coming from nowhere, he's a cup winning coach thats available so leaf media is blowing him up to be some great.

Also what does far down the road mean? To me it means not close.

They should have hired guys whose name starts with Wood or Knob like the Oilers whose next coach will be Bob Cockson.

Should have gone with Gallant or even Guy Boucher IMO. They need an immediate 180° in chemistry and execution for quick results in the next season or two more than they need a stable 'head coach' 5 years from now.

Babcock 2.0
Yes to change chemistry and execution hire the internal guy who was responsible for the worst PP the league has ever seen.

Goalie was not their problem in the slightest.

This hiring is obviously a step in changing the culture of the team. The interesting thing will be if the star players get onboard and push themselves to be parts of a winning team, or revolt and develop a rift between players and coach.

I guess it will depend if they truly want to win or value personal achievements?

They were good in the regular season running 7th, and excellent last year at second. They just couldn’t do it in playoffs.
Teams adjust when when they see the team multiple times.

Remember when Keefe had to apologize for daring to question the almighty core 4?

lol.

They’re gonna get bitched out and no apology will be forthcoming.
Marner I believe was the one that approached Mgt to get Keefe to apologize. I don't know, the lack of character of the big 4 if it wasn't noticeable before, it sure should be by now. From Matthews mooning security guards to Marner's hiring security to harass Media if they do not provide favourable coverage, to Nylander's hold out to now overpaid contract and JT worst captain in the NHL. Berube has got his work cut out for him. This has the makings of a reality TV show.

Binnington helped turn the last place team around with 2 months of hot play when he first came up(berube also stepped up as coach during that time and didnt statt year as coach), but was league average the last 2 months of the year and had barely above league average sv% during the playoffs, and other than the really bad darcy kuemper playoffs win, was one ofnthe lower recent playoff sv% by a cup winning goalie. So to say binnington carried him isnt really accurate at all as binny wasnt that amazing during the playoffs.
Shhh dont use logic here.

In fairness it was Guy Boucher’s 1-3-1 that lead to the Leafs come back in the series. Not sure why he was running the Leafs PP!
Keefe gunna Keefe.

Damn to bad the Leafs didnt keep him around! They were having so much success with him.

Took Boston until game 7 overtime to adjust to a Leafs team that had their 2 best players and best goalie out for most of the series

He got respect in the handshake line on the way to his Cup with the Blues.

Leafs get more respect at the end of the first round.

Yeah and he could only muster up 1 playoff series win during his time. Probably best to try something different at this point. Its much easier to change a coach than an entire roster.

Keefe was also out coached in every single playoff series he was in lol. But you probably didnt see that happen.
lol… that’s been the same under every coach for the last decade+… at what point do you leaf fans start putting the blame on the players and the organization
