On a side tangent, the bolded is exactly why I will always scoff at folks who question Murray's performance as a Pen, even if he does end up being a flash in the pan. You hear stuff like, "the next Cam Ward". My answer to that is, so what? Whether he has a Ward-like career or has a Brodeur-like career, you can't take away the fact he was a critical part of winning 2 Cups.
Yeah, for sure. But at the same time, was going into this season with DeSmith as the backup the best idea, given Murray's struggles/injury concerns?
Especially when a guy like McIlheney (sp) was put on waivers by the Leafs, maybe JR should have looked at picking him up or tossing them a 7th round pick so they could get him before he was put on waivers.
It just sucks regardless. We flat out don't win a Cup without Murray in 2016. We don't win a Cup without both Fleury and Murray in 2017. He was a huge part of our 2 Cups. Last year sucked as he lost his father and we ran into a brick wall mentally/physically.
This was supposed to be a growth year. Mentally, spiritually, etc. And.......... concussion after 2 brutal games. Not the start he wanted. I just hope he has mental strength. Dig deep and get back. And no matter what happens, he will be defined as injury prone from here on out. It sucks but it is what it is.
It really sucks.
we all see this, even with our lame untrained eye, any indication that Coaching staff recognizes this?

What about a Steve Mason?
Mason won 2 Cups with really good starter stats?

You're annoying that's why.
Is Jarry the guy to own now? Pittsburgh seems a lot higher on Jarry and it looks like he was just in the AHL because he was waiver exempt and hurt.

Wasn't he talking about signing Mason as a vet backup? I don't think it was a comparison to Murray.
I thought you were a Vegas fan, why are you still posting here?
I really don't get the doom and gloom when it comes to the Penguins goalies. They have a good NHL ready goalie prospect in Jarry and a guy who has pretty consistently performed well in the pro levels in DeSmith. It's not like they go from Murray to some AHL scrub, they have NHL caliber goalies. It's the same thing with their LWers, until these two show they can't do it, I don't know why anyone would worry about it.
I generally agree, although I'd probably prefer a vet back up option to DeSmith. It's a lot of guys without a lot of NHL experience and calm presence to help through the storms.

I should note this, Jarry had 5 really bad outings last season in 26 games. In those 5 outings, he gave up 21 goals on 100 shots, which gave him a .790 save%. In the rest of the outings, he gave up 42 goals on 587 shots, which gave him a save% of .928. Just throwing that out there, I don't think Jarry's .908 save% paints an accurate picture for how he did in Pittsburgh last year. My thoughts for that are supported by those splits and his quality start% being well above average.
I'd rather see DeSmith and Jarry prove they can't be the backups before bringing in a veteran backup. Same way with Simon on the 3rd line, until he fails there, I don't see the point of bringing in someone else.
If I recall correctly our goalies had pretty different stats from home and away. Which probably had more to do with the team.
Jarry is young too so you are going to see the really bad games from time to time. I can’t see him not being an NHL starter eventually. He’s kind of a mix between Murray and Fleury. If he can progress well enough might be a chance to beat out Murray.
