Just when you think it's easy to bad mouth Maclean he goes and dresses in Victoria Cougars merch. People forget that BC had another other team that won the Stanley Cup.
Fans are so blinded by the "Cup or bust" insanity that they've convinced themselves that the Millionaires must have done something great because the trademark of the Stanley Cup is attached to it. They won a three-team league with 17 games (with highly limited talent levels), and then two playoff games.I wonder what Victoria Senators, Aristocrats, and Canaries sweaters look like.
We just don't celebrate this team enough. It's like the Millionaires are the only ones we had. New Westminster had a PCHA team but we don't acknowledge them either.
Disagree vehemently. Millionaires had hockey's first superstar, Cyclone Taylor, and there would not be a player of his caliber until Bobby Orr. They then went on to be the NHA's Ottawa Senators.Fans are so blinded by the "Cup or bust" insanity that they've convinced themselves that the Millionaires must have done something great because the trademark of the Stanley Cup is attached to it. The Canucks do more than that in their most average seasons.
As a young adult, I never took the time to appreciate the Cougars for their tenacity and willingness to teach.
Now as I am older, you see the value they bring.
Mainly how to get on a list where you have to inform the neighbours with kids that you e moved into the area.I'm sure Ron could teach us all a few things
I'm referring to the fact that they were drawing from a very limited pool. No Europeans, virtually no Americans, etc. It was the nichest of the niche back then.Disagree vehemently. To be fair, it isn't technically the same team. The owners just employed a lot of the same players with their new team. It's a bit closer to the North Stars-Sharks than the North Stars-Stars.It's too bad that the Detroit Red Wings have never acknowledged their Victoria Cougars roots.
The Patrick Bros, who had this crazy idea of three periods, blue lines, and gasp the invention of the forward pass. American Football wouldn't have the forward pass for another 14 years.I'm referring to the fact that they were drawing from a very limited pool. Nothing got us through the Depression quite like those heated derby matches between the Slanderers and Weasels. A bloodbath every time. Was all the Victoria Slanderers & Weasels merch sold out?
