He would be a distraction, and when he hits stage 4 the Pens would be without a star player and whatever they put out to land him leaving a big hole they can't fill.
The Pens are already short a star player, and nobody we could realistically add with our resources would have close to his impact, let alone cap hit.

Nichushkin played for the Avs, who managed to do quite well with him. Meanwhile the distraction-free Pens can't even make the playoffs.

If the Avs are done with him and contract termination is out, he might be able to be acquired for nothing.

Nichushkin was a bargain bin reclamation project for Colorado anyway.. Maybe we should just do a little digging and find the next Nichushkin (minus the off-ice problems).
Those ideas aren't mutually exclusive, but one is exponentially more likely to result in adding an impact player during the core's time here.

We should be doing both.

I can’t believing people want a 6 million dollar cap penalty. That’s what Nichushkin is.

He is suspended for 6 months. He is more likely on his way out of the league than a rebound.

Easy pass

Plus he'd just go back to being a like 9 goal, 30 point player here, anyway.

This team is where creativity goes to wither up and die.

It's a constant double whammy with this team.

1. Bad pro scouting with no understanding what the player is

2. Sullivan disregarding the players strengths and trying to switch their entire game

It's been especially egregious with defensemen for whatever reason

I mean, the idea behind it isn't bad-- high risk, high reward reclamation project. I just wouldn't do that one for obvious reasons.

You'd think with all this incompetence and crossed wires they'd actually bumble their way into a situation or two that somehow works in spite of their best attempts to hamfist it. But nooooooooooooo

Maybe Reirden being gone will help re: the defensemen. That's what I tell myself while smiling a cracked smile, at least.

The fact that EK couldn't even help them get into the playoffs makes me laugh. I applaud everyone here that's putting effort into thinking about next year's roster. What is some rando 3rd liner gonna do if the reigning Norris trophy winner couldn't overcome Sullsma lol

I'd actually take ERod back in a heartbeat. Shit... I never really wanted him to go. The only time he ever irritated me was when the coach tried him on Crosby's RW for some reason for a little too long. He was fine when he was here and has done even better since he left. ERod and Eller as your bottom six centers for like 5-6M total would be pretty OK.
Erod is one of those guys who is secretly great but who a lot of fans hate because he looks like he should score more than he does based on how often he has the puck.

Tyler Kennedy used to get the same hate from Pens fans but what a lot of those fans never realized is yeah the chest snipes are annoying but it's actually pretty nice that he's chest sniping a lot because it means he has the puck all the damned time. Erod had similar vibes for me. It'd be nice if they could finish better but they're ability to hold onto pucks and grind is a real asset that this team doesn't have enough of.

Yeah it's me. I'm the TK stan baby. Unironically one of my favorite Pens bottom sixers ever lol.

I remember when I was arguing for ERod over ZAR his first year here and people were calling me crazy lol.

Probably the same posters saying Yager will be a franchise forward.

bringing in Ehlers, moving Rakell and Smith, and adding youth would be great

Ehlers-Sid-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-prospect/FA
DOC-Pomomarev-Puus
Poulin-Eller-Acciari

Petts-EK
FA/POJ-Letang
Graves-FA/St.Ivany

goalie will be interesting. Do you try to swing a deal for Ullmark or go with 2 new FAs with the idea Blomqvist pushes after the new year?

Talbot
Stolarz
Ned (if the number is right)
Reimer
Lankinen
Driedger
Hellberg

I know that’s an underwhelming list but if they cheaped out and went with 2 of the above while getting out of Jarry I wouldn’t mind tbh.
I like your third line for the penguins.
