It’s not a one way though. The opposition will try to maximize his weakness particularly with the puck on his stick (which is horrible). Sheltering doesn’t really prevent that except for TOI. He creates zero offense.
When the first thing you say about a player is he’s a good PK’er then...........
Well, duh, teams will try to have him handle the puck. We know they will try and do that. Now, our coaching staff needs to have a strategy in place to counter that.
We are talking about our 6th D here. If you expect him to be more than a role player, well, I do not know what you are looking for in a 6th D. Of course he will be flawed... if he was not, he would not be a bargain bin player in a cap world.
Should we have signed him? Probably not. But, now that we have him, let's try to be objective. Guy can be an effective 6 and that's all we need him to be. He can kill penalties, he can play well in his own zone. What more do you want from a 6? Be a great puck mover?
If Sully is dumb enough to deploy him against top line (and he did that at times with JJ and Schultz last year... especially late in games in the playoffs when we needed... OFFENSE!), well, that's on Sully, not the player.
