Funny thing is that he is not that noticeable on the ice. I mean as compared to other great playoff performers (Makar, MacKinnon, McDavid) he is somewhat a work horse. But his stats says that playoff stars should not be necessarily flashy.

I keep trying to argue that he's got a legit case to be the #2 player in the world. Is it clear cut? No. He's got a case though. The guy steps up when it matters most, every single year.

Draisatl was the one who decided to use a top 4 of Nurse Ceci Kulak and Barrie. He's the reason the Oilers never won the cup.

I think Draisaitl has the same problem as Malkin: he just happens to play behind the best and most well known player of the time. The dude is an absolute monster and people would rightfully realize how much of a monster he was if he didn't have to play behind McDavid.
Haven't been able to see the Oilers but his name is plastered all over the box scores..
Dude is on one right now.

While they aren’t playing with Nikita Nikitin or Belanger type players you really have to think Mcdavid and Drai have gotten a shit team around them. The top pair is wicked though and everything can’t be perfect but I dunno

Can someone find stats for players for first 2 rounds of playoffs.

Leon is not one of the best playoff performers until he will make it until the finals.

How many of those points are on the pp? 90% of them?
Instead of trying to make a semi-funny quip like that, you might as well have spend five seconds to find out yourself. Then you wouldn't have made quite the fool out of yourself...

He does in fact have 57 even strength points in 58 playoff games. Putting him just one point shy of being the only player other than Gretzky to have 1 even strength point per game. And no one else is even close to that (McDavid and Toe Blake have 49 in 58, MacKinnon has 74 in 87, Lemieux 86 in 107).
And yes, performances drop with age, so he might not be able to stay at that mark when his career draws to a close. But even that doesn't change that there is no player in the recent past who could match that sort of even strength production in the playoffs.

That is such a nonsensical take. Player and team performances are something completely different. All you can ask for from a player, is to do his job as best as he can. If he does it, it is simply disingenuous to badmouth him just because his team wasn't strong enough to win. That is even more true in a league that consists of 32 teams, which makes it much less likely for players to have long playoff runs unless they happen to be so lucky to play on a great team.

Ray Bourque didn't become a better player just because he won a Cup at the end of his career. His performance during that run, while still very good, was but a shadow of the performances he gave on Boston's runs in the late 80s / early 90s. Just Like Dominik Hasek was better on the runs where he didn't win a Cup than he was on the ones in which he did. In fact, Hasek's second Cup saw him lose his job and watch someone else win while he was the backup.

Team results have no business being mentioned when it comes to individual player performances. Otherwise Henri Richard would be the greatest player ever, which he obviously isn't. Heck, Patrick Maroon won three consecutive Cups, and was in four consecutive finals, yet that most definately didn't happen because he was carrying his teams on those runs. On the contrary, he was little more than a depth piece who was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

Peak Lemieux (1989 to 1992) 1.98 PPG in playoffs

Last 3 years:

McDavid - 1.92 PPG
Draisaitl - 1.89 PPG

We truly are witnessing some incredible performances by those two these past 3 years. They are legitimately giving peak Mario Lemieux a run for his money in terms of playoff performance.

You still give Lemieux the edge for a few reasons:

49 games to 37 (not as big a gap as you'd think)
higher PPG
much higher GPG
Lemieux played also in rounds 3 and 4 often, and the father you go/harder it gets

But - both McDrai are still very close to his production on a per game basis. No other players in history have kept up this scoring pace so long in the playoffs outside of Lemieux and Gretzky (he's even higher). It's quite impressive.

Leon is not one of the best playoff performers until he will make it until the finals.

Comparing peak Lemieux (1989 to 1992) to Drai + McDavid (last 3 years, 2022 to 2024) for first 2 rounds only:

Lemieuex 31 games, 24 goals 55 points. 1.77 PPG .77 GPG
Draisaitl 33 games, 28 goals 64 points, 1.94 PPG .85 GPG
McDavid 33 games 17 giaksm 64 points, 1.94 PPG .27 GPG

So - they both have actually outdone peak Lemieux in firts 2 rounds past 3 years, in more games played too.

Of course.....Lemieux then went on to post the following numbers in rounds 3 and 4 in that stretch:

18 games, 20 goals, 42 points. 2.33 PPG 1.11 GPG

We'll see how McDrai perform if they can go to round 3 and 4 - but even without that they've been tremendous past 3 years.

What’s particularly impressive is that whenever he has an “injury”, he’s only limping in the defensive zone. Amazing offensive resiliency.
