This is a close one, two strong Harts. I'd go Malkin very narrowly but Ovechkin has a case.

Malkin was not at all better in 2009 than Ovi lol.

In 3 less games, Ovechkin had 3 less points and 21 more goals. Malkin also had Crosby on his team that produced at essentially the exact same level, and was in on like 50% of Malkins points.
Ovechkin took some healthy games off that year. That will usually result in points/game going up slightly.

As to the thread, this is Malkin pretty clearly.

Ovechkin stomped Malkin in 2009 Hart voting (115 first place votes to 12) and the players said Ovechkin was better as well.

Some pretty good history revision going on in this thread.

Agree

There is a good argument there.

Ovechkin handily won MVP and more importantly, Pearson and didn't have the luxury of playing with a player we all agree is top 5-10 ever.

As for this thread, 2012 Malkin easily. For the same reason as 2008 Ovechkin, just absolutely dragged a team.

Sure Malkin got 77 games of a 21 year old crosby that year but both guys had double the points of the 3rd best Penguin.

If anything Ovi had the better supporting core cast that season and heck it's not even close.

That's fair.

Considering 20 year old Crosby put up 120 points, getting a 21 year old Crosby seems great.

I take this stance though for all MVPs where two players are over 100 unless there's a massive gap like McDavid's 150 point season. Just my opinion though, others have differing views.

I think Malkin wins this whole tournament. That season was a master class in domination we haven’t seen since.

No

McDavid has at least 2 better seasons. Ovechkin probably has 1, and I still really like a couple of other seasons too. I think Malkin is one of the strong ones, but definitely not #1.

08-09 would be considered Ovies best season and he’s currently losing to Malkin right now.

That one McDavid season though could beat Malkin though , I don’t disagree with that.
