That was by far his best game of the playoffs. Keep it up. If he's woken up and can take over the next 2+ games, we can forgive the previous 11 as a learning experience.
He has 90 playoff games and he is in his late 20s. The learning has already happened. He just hasn’t performed to his ability for whatever reason (injury, d partner chemistry, whatever it is). He is a legitimate #1D, we should be happy to have him.

McAvoy and Lindholm both played with more patience, cut down on the giveaways and made better decisions with the puck. Made a big difference. Lindholm with 25:33 TOI, Mac with 23:22.

Interesting that Wotherspoon (19:54) got way more ice time than Peeke (13:27) or Lohrei (11:06).

Thought he's been pretty good the past two games, especially last night. Big goal for him to get, hopefully big for his confidence. He'll need to be great for us to have any chance.

Mistakes will happen because he's up against the best of an incredible offense. Florida will force them. Just need to limit them and not leave Sway out to dry, he'll stop anything he can see.

Maybe it's time for everyone (coaches, management, fans) to admit that maybe he's not the type of player who can handled 25 mins. a night.

D-men who can do that and do it successfully know how to pace themselves. They play more patient, more efficient, pick their spots better. McAvoy's style has always been high energy, relies on his all-world athleticism.

Sometimes it's hard to reign in a thoroughbred who wants to run, but that's on the coaches to do their thing and well, coach.

This team has 3 capable right-shot D-men in their prime (McAvoy, Carlo, Peeke) that can defensively go up against any opponent. Next season if they run it back with those 3 (likely), they should try and dial back McAvoy's minutes, especially in the regular season, so that he has more in the playoffs. His mistakes in these playoffs are mental, which tells me it's likely heavy fatigue more than it is poor hockey sense/decision making. If Carlo and Peeke can handle a bit more 5 on 5 and PK, and Lohrei can handle some PP Unit 1 duty, maybe they can get more out of McAvoy where he's at his best 5 on 5.

Just need to make sure that when McAvoy isn’t out there they can still transition. Lorhei is hopeful but needs his 100-200 games. Lindholm doesn’t seem to be enough of a puck mover to carry a Carlo or Peeke. But maybe that looks better with real centers. But today, if McAvoy ain’t out there they are kind of f***ed. And if he is out there too much they are kinda f***ed.

IMO Wotherspoon has been amazingly reliable out there. Peeke's still working his way back & while Lohrei has great potential he's still prone to rookie mistakes.

A lot of D-corps are built that way now. 1 puck-mover and a 5 redwoods. Vegas were like that last year. Vancouver's D is built this way. To a degree so is Florida's this year, and even moreso last year.

Personally I think it's the right approach. The 5 redwoods don't all have to be killers, but bring reach and length and most of all defend well. I only need one D-man who operate at the top of the umbrella on the PP.

Mac's only 26.
