Welp, we're going to OT. Cuda took two straight interference penalties and despite the fact that the Gulls are nearly as bad as we are, their power play is second in the AHL. 5-5.

And now, a shootout.

We lose in the shootout. Gushchin, Robins, Bystedt all stopped by Stalock. So, a bit of an anticlimatic loss after all that.

Defense could've been better tonight on both sides, let's just put it that way.

Obviously a good debut for Bystedt with 2G/1A. Kyle Rau put up three points as well with 1G/2A and Ethan Cardwell had 1G/1A. Think maybe we ought to keep those three together. Two assists for Nathan Todd. Gushchin with an assist to keep his point streak going. He also showed some great effort on the backcheck with about 1:30 to go in OT. He seems like he's feeling pretty well to me.

The other new guys tonight. Akim Aliu didn't do a whole lot, but he also didn't do a whole lot wrong. He kept things pretty simple. Vanroboys seems like he's a bit of a pain to deal with. Might be someone we try out as a fourth liner going forward.

Houle, Klee and Grainger will all debut tonight. So Carriere is the only one who hasn't drawn into a game yet. Houle is #96, Klee is #59, Grainger is #57. Many late season signings wind up wearing the numbers of guys who departed earlier in the season.

Quite a few roster changes in this one. Kinal and Kaspick are also back in. Aliu, Sabourin, Knyzhov, Carroll, Vanroboys all come out.

The Bystedt line from last night remains intact. Little surprised Klee is paired with Thompson.

End of the first period. Fairly quiet one so far, 0-0. Each side pretty much had just one big chance. Romanov made the save on this one:

Also posting that clip to point out how far away the camera is, I don't remember that being a thing at their games before. So, hard to tell who's who out there at times.

Barracuda take the lead, Bucheler currently getting credit for it but Kaspick may have tipped it. 1-0. Houle also currently has the secondary assist, but he'd lose that if it's Kaspick's.

(Edit: It has been changed. So it's now Kaspick, assisted by Bucherer and Vincent)

Wow, Georgi:

--

Still 1-0 after two periods. Firebirds had a 5 on 3 for a little bit, and hit the post twice during that power play. They're looking a little frustrated.

Firebirds finally get a goal, an awkward one from Melanson. 1-1.

---

And now a second, immediately following a power play. 2-1 Firebirds. Shots are actually 39-23 Firebirds.

Romanov has been brilliant tonight, so a little surprising this last one went in. Kole Lind (of course) makes it 3-1.

---

That's your final. Basically Romanov kept us in it until he just seemingly couldn't anymore, Cuda had a few chances but Driedger was up to the challenge. Weren't really any standout performances on the Cuda except maybe Romanov himself. On to Ontario on Saturday.

So many names going in and out of the lineup down the stretch.

As far as I can tell, compared to last game, it's:
In: Sabourin, Vanroboys, Carroll
Out: Todd, Grainger, Houle

New LW for Bystedt, that should be an interesting line.

Romanov starts again.

Nollenberger says Mukhamadullin may be out the rest of the season (Specifically, he said "2 to 3 weeks", which is pretty much the rest of the season). Guryev and Peterson are for sure out for the year.

Robins taps in a rebound to make it 2-0 Cuda. Assists to Rau and Bucheler, that's two assists in two games for Bucheler.

Pinelli then scores to cut it back to a one-goal game. I've really got to say at this point, I'm not that impressed by Thompson's defense.

I also feel like mentioning last time we played Ontario, we went up 2-0 and then lost the game 3-2.

We're headed to OT.

Fagemo puts it in, but it gets waved off after the officials have a conference for goaltender interference. Wild. They'd hit the lights and the whole Reign team was out there celebrating already.

Headed to the shootout, the Reign are still fuming.

And, we lose in a shootout, so we've found a way to lose to Ontario once more. We failed to beat them a single time this season in eight attempts. Just no words for that.

Samuel Fagemo is going to have nightmares about Romanov. Actually, let me give a major positive as of late: Despite the fact that Georgi Romanov has only won one of his past three starts, he's put up a .948 SV% during those three games. He's been so good as of late.

That second Ontario goal is just one that you shake your head at, though. This team has such bad luck on top of all its other issues.

Barracuda are back home next, on Wednesday vs. Henderson.
