I ran across a CNN story about Aaron Boone being ejected on Monday. The first Oakland batter was possibly hit in the foot by a pitch. One of the other umpires said that the batter did not swing, so off to first base.
Home Plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt warned Boone that he had run out of chances. Boone said "okay" and went back to the dugout. A fan in the front row behind the dugout yelled "Let's go, home plate" and Wendelstedt immediately ejected Boone, who a YES Network camera revealed had said nothing.
MLB is looking into the matter.
I have been to a lot of MLB baseball games and this is like the Twilight Zone version.
One has to wonder what an umpire has to do to earn a reprimand or a short "vacation"?
