I'm excited for the kid too but...is it really a 180?

If it was Broz in that position, I'd say yes. But this was the expected progression for Yager, no?

Surprised the sour pusses round here aren't indicting him for getting those assists on the PP.

''BUT BUT he didn't do it 5 on 5''!
Man what I wouldn't give for a powerplay specialist right now...

Not sure about the 180 comment, he was a pretty solid 200ft player when we drafted him.

Exactly! And equally as important is someone who can finish, he has one hell of a release, could absolutely see him net 35 goals a year after some more seasoning.

Agreed, I don't see it as a 180 either, just progressing and getting better all around. But he was drafted with the idea of being a good all around player if I remember correctly.

Agreed. Which is why I'm nervous about Sullivan getting his hands on him.

Everyone is excited to have a prospect of Yager's caliber in the system.
As they should be, but round here so many, too many actually, focus on 5 on 5 production. Surely you've seen that. With these fancy stats, and then subsets of stats. When it's all said and done, goals count equally. But some here only give guys credit if they're ES. It's just so mind numbingly absurd. lol

That's Kyles 1st draft pick here, Kyle will win the battle of wills here, he's already putting his stamp on the team. Trading Jake, getting prospects and bringing in a guy like Bunting, jettisoning Rierden, I love it! Looking forward to the draft and Free Agency.

Just wait until Dubas puts him on the roster and Sullivan gives him 8 min on L3 or L4 and benched him when he commits a penalty lol

Pens will have more players to compete for center after Sid. Geno, Eller will be gone and Yager, Poulin, Ponomarev, maybe Broz at least give the Pens options in the system. Plus next two years draft also will offer centers as well. Pretty intrigued on Broz here. He has the size and awareness to be a center.

Hey, now that some of the colorful chart guys are saying he’s good, we can get our hopes up?

That Jesse tweet makes no sense. This was expected out of him. Total 180 is nonsense.

Yager had a very down year when he was drafted. To have him bounce back and have a year of this caliber including his playoffs is encourgaging.

I feel like I’ve said this 20 times. He said that he was focusing on his defensive game (likely due to criticism heading into his draft year that he was a one dimensional offense only guy) and his stats took a hit due to the added responsibility.

I’m some dude just following stuff online and I knew that and knew to expect a bounce back year offensively. Why would anyone else be caught off guard especially if they are supposed experts on the subject?

Agreed, it wasn't a 180 at all. And I'm not here to call out Jesse, I respect his work. That said, and If I remember correctly, he preferred others at 14OA last year. I think he had him at 18 OR 19TH on his mock. And he could be right, but I'm happy with Yagers progression, not that I didn't think it wasn't expected. He played well at the WJ's as well.

Poulin sucks.

I had ASP and Perrault ahead of Yager and had him lumped in with Moore and Stenberg but after diving into him in the days after we picked him I became very impressed. Few players his age would have the awareness and maturity to actually work on a weakness of his game in his draft year. Instead of being rewarded for that his rankings fell because a lot of hockey people are really kind dumb and can only understand stat lines.

100% agree, we got a very solid and well rounded prospect on our hands. Just gotta sign him.

I’ll trust Jesse’s take on prospects more than most people given his background.

It was pretty widely known that he was a good 200ft player actually at the draft. The bigger question was his offensive acumen and if he could take that aspect of his game to another level. Looks like he has, which is no surprise to me.

I mean, he’s just saying the same things that the majority of people have said and seen with their eyes, he just apparently was surprised by it. Glad he could tell you what opinion to have now, though.

I can probably count the people on my one fingered hand that have actually watched Yager play a full hockey game in this thread.
Pfft as though that matters. People watch the Pens play 82 games a year and still form horrendously bad takes about their players all the time.

I don't think they do. Most people that watch the Penguins actually play that aren't media people have similar opinions to the voices I trust.

A lot of the people that say they watch 82 games when you dig deeper are like "yeah I watch the Penguins while playing Rocket League."

If you’re going by scouting reports on HFboards that’s a whole other problem. Kris Beech should be about getting inducted into the HHOF if we knew what we were talking about.

Yager had a lot of questions about him in his draft year.

It's why he dropped so far. I'm tired of having to take this perspective on the player I wanted us to select for about a year prior to last year's draft and that I really like.

Yager rocks. The only dissapointing part is we could've got Benson which I never thought was a reality.
