Game 1: Lindsay-Apps-Geoffrion is arguably the best top line assembled. Eddie Shore is arguably the best defensive player ever. Unstoppable force, meet immovable object. Tonight, it's the immovable object's time to shine as Shore and BlackJack put the hurt on the Golden Age All-Stars. Physical play is an understatement as Shore and Lindsay fight twice throughout the game, Shore winning both. Late in the first, Joe Sakic scores on a timely wrist shot. Joliat and Savard answer in the second with a goal. But then Broduer shuts the door. Olmstead and Nedomansky hook up to set-up the Richard go ahead goal. A Pronger slap-shot ties it up again. And once again, Brodeur will not give up a game winning goal, he'll let Buffalo tie it up, but not take the lead. In overtime, Neely score the winner on a Kasatonov slapshot.
New Jersey wins 3-2 in overtime.
Game 2: It's the unstoppable force's turn. Lindsay take the fight to Shore, literally, with Lindsay winning their only fight tonight. Apps sets up goals by both Lindsay and Geoffrion. Sakic tries to keep it close, setting up Tonelli for a goal, but Cyclone Taylor seals the deal with an empty net goal.
Buffalo wins 3-1
Game 3: Shore mixes it up, using more skill then toughness, baiting Lindsay into an instigator penalty, the people in the nosebleed seats can hear Lindsay's thoughts on the instigator rule. Shore and BlackJack then are able to contain Apps and Geoffrion, neutrering the Sabres' offence. So the Sabres turn inward, playing a tight defensive game, suits the Devils just fine, but neither side can take the lead. In overtime, Sakic scores the winner.
New Jersey wins 1-0 in overtime.
Game 4: Lindsay learns his lesson, knowing he cn play the skill game just as much as Shore can. As cooler heads prevail, Apps is able to score, but just as well, Shore is able to set-up a goal by Hextall. After the first goal, Broduer shuts the door. Joe Sakic scores one and sets up Neely for another.
New Jersey wins 3-1
Game 5: The match-up of the series heats up as BlackJack steps up the physical play, he and Lindsay fight with Lindsay winning. Shore keeps Apps and Geoffrion mostly in check. Butt Geoffrion is able to slap one past Broduer. Continued pressure by the BC connection of Neely and Sakic keeps Buffalo on it's toes, but Pronger and Savard are able to keep them in check. Instead, Nedomanky rises to the challenge, outworking Naslund in order to set-up Olmstead for the go ahead goal. Buffalo answers with a breakaway goal by Cyclone Taylor. With the score tied, both sides pull out all the stops, as the tight series turns run and gun as both teams search mercilessly for the winner. Buffalo is fighting for it's life, while New Jersey wants to seal the deal. Ultimately, Brodeur proves better than Vezina. On a Buffalo dump in, Brodeur passes to Shore, who skates through the nuetral zone, give and go and give and go with Sakic leads to Eddie Shore putting this series away.
New Jersey wins 3-2
