Don't worry fans of Canadian teams. I'm sure those patriotic Canadian players will come home to play for their boyhood teams and end the drought soon. NOT!

I guess facts hurt your feelings. They were 10th among Eastern Conference teams.
Facts cloud your judgment? Kind of hard to rank teams when it wasn't a normal season. Then the playoffs hit and they took out the Leafs, manhandled the Jets and Knights. Sure, not a playoff team.

Kinda easy to do it actually. You order the EC teams by points... They were 10th.

And they still make it, and still took out everyone that wasn't the Lightning.

People can bitch all they want, if your team got taken out by the Habs, it's because your team didn't deserved to be there in the first place
That, and also because Carey Price was a demi-god

So that's 39 series wins out of a possible ~280? That's a little more than half of where that number probably should be. Tough 20 years for Canadian teams. Especially since 3 of those were guaranteed thanks to the Covid year.

Ya Canadian teams collectively have had a tough time in the playoffs in the last 20 years but the Oilers are looking really strong this year and I wouldn't be surprised if they break the drought.

When you think about this as if it were a single team, it really is astonishing that they have not won a single Stanley Cup during this timeframe. If a team like this existed, it would rewrite our whole concept of a “regular season team”.

Well 2 don’t count :sarcasm: 2020 they were in the expanded bubble playoffs 24th ranked team, or around there

2021, they were 18th, probably not a playoff team in a normal year. Habs fans don’t like it when that gets mentioned. But it’s the truth.

I'll agree to that if you agree that, under the circumstances, they did pretty good for themselves when given those opportunities; they wouldnt have gained an entrance to the playoffs otherwise, but htey made it to the top floor one of those times.

Not quite sure how you "Fabricate standings" by pointing out that they were 10th among EC teams lol.
Do you remember that season at all? It wasn't that long ago. The divisions were totally different. Different conditions usually change the results. Just saying "10th in east" makes it sound like you truly have no idea what happened that year. What truly matters is how they manhandled multiple "playoff" teams in the actual playoffs. Do you recall? Again, it wasn't long ago.

Have you read the thread at all? I literally said they benefitted from playing in a shit division due to COVID and wouldn't have made it under normal conditions.

You still don't get it.

"Normal circumstances" can't be compared because the situation WAS NOT NORMAL. Let's look at reality rather than trying to spin some bizarre narrative.

I don't get it? I've literally been saying that's the only reason they made it for pages now.

Reality is, in a normal year that Habs team doesn't make the playoffs. Not that difficult of a concept to grasp.

Please stop cluttering this thread with your alternate reality. There was no Eastern Conference that year, just like there was no Norris or Southeast Divisions. You can't rank point totals of teams that never played each other and proclaim who would and wouldn't have made the playoffs. In 2020/21, Montreal played precisely as many games against Swedish and Russian teams as they did against Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, NY, Philly, Pittsburgh, etc. Do you not understand this?

Feel free to start a thread with your imaginary scenario. This is not the place.

It is obviously about how lacking playoff resume has been for Canadian teams, but if we want to be positive (outside puck luck) we could say that.

Koivu, Price/Halak, Markov, Plekanec/Daneault, Subban, Webber were good playoff player, Claude Julien/Jacque Martin/Therrien were really good to not bad experimented playoff coach, i.e. yes luck but maybe a bit of merit of why they are 14th in playoff wins vs 24 in the regular season, regarding injury of player that ended up playing in the playoff.

Mediocre is a good way to put MTL has been 14th in playoff win during that time, just happen that the other have been even worsts.
