Leon Draisaitl is one of the best playoff performers in NHL history

He’s on a run of 5/6 seasons with 100+ points and 3 50 goal seasons over that span, not to mention the playoff performances. Couple more seasons like this and he’s a first balloter.
Especially after he wins the cup this year

He's really really good but it's McDavid who's just so far ahead of everyone else in this league that really allows Drai to maximize what he excels at. The idea that anyone could say he's better than McDavid in the playoffs is just insane. McDavid tilts the ice so far in favour for the Oilers that a framer could use it to make his studs plumb

I think Draisaitl has the same problem as Malkin: he just happens to play behind the best and most well known player of the time. The dude is an absolute monster and people would rightfully realize how much of a monster he was if he didn't have to play behind McDavid.
Agree that it’s a very similar situation to the penguin duo but I just wonder if Drai benefits more from a McDavid than Malkin did from Sid. Im
Thinking mostly in terms of pp points . Drais shot is amazing but that pp thrives because of the threat MacDavid is.

He doesn't play a lick of defense. Imagine if the other stars around the league completely abandoned the 2nd half of the ice and cherry picked for 2 on 1's all game long what their production would look like. Now imagine they also had McDavid feeding them on the PP (in which they draw top of the league in PP opportunities). Then all he has to do is let the goalie and coach be the scapegoat.

He is obviously an incredible player. I enjoy watching him a lot, and especially love watching him on the PP and how he can score on the slimmest angles. But if you watch him it is obvious why the team has never won anything in the postseason..
Does it get exhausting always being wrong? It's impressive how somebody can be so ignorant yet pretend like they actually understand what they're talking about.

“Drai can’t play defence” is a take that will age worse than “Drai is overpaid.”

It always takes a couple years for the hockey world to figure out what Oilers fans already know. Same story will repeat in regards to Bouchard, who’s one of the the best defenceman in the League.

Strange how era adjustments are always brought up until they compare favorably for some players and against others.

No one brought up era adjustments except you. The person you quoted compared players at the same age. Which is better to compare instead of a players peak+prime vs a players peak+prime+decline like OP did

Thanks for posting the links. Early in the season EP was being argued as the 3rd or 4th best centre in the league by many Nucks fans. All cause he had a 40ish game stretch of production roughly equal to what Draisaitl has done over the last 500 games of his career.

These threads don’t exist inside a vacuum.

But to this age point, somehow I don’t think the same courtesy will be applied to certain players past the age of 28, when they likely play far more than the 41 playoff games Lemieux did.
