50% retained sure a pick in the late teens.I agree he's not worth 10th OA. He's also not worth a 2nd. He's worth a pick in the late teens. Trying to simultaneously go young on the blueline and not having goaltending is why I would fire Fitz if I was the owner. That's not a mistake an NHL GM should make.
What should Tom Fitzgerald have done differently?
Going into the year the dcore was set up as:
Siegs-Hamilton
Hughes-Marino
Bahl-Miller
Smith
Nemec was kept in the AHL to preserve veterans.
Should he have kept Severson or Graves on the contracts they got? Do either of those contracts seem like something people want now? Who would you have moved to fit those guys under the salary cap?
Unfortunately Miller got hurt to start the year, as did Hamilton, Siegs, Marino, and Smith battling injuries throughout.
the kids were the only ones to stay Healthy, and were the best dmen on the team when they played.
He then consistently looked to improve goaltending, while understanding that there is a long term window, and not overpaying to go in on a team riddled by injury.
