Hi there,
So I’m obviously new to the forum and I’m hoping I’m doing this right but I have been lurking for a while and figured I would just ask, as you guys seem to be pretty knowledgeable. So I play ball hockey at a pickup level with friends once a week, but we are thinking of playing at a more organized level. I’m a goalie and right now I use street pads, some old player pants, an armless chest protector that does nothing, a caged player helmet and a street hockey blocker and trapper. This works okayish (minus the arm bruises from nasty snapshots) for playing with the guys because we don’t allow slapshots, however at the level we want to play we want to allow slapshots so I’m looking at getting some newer gear.
So I want to get new gear, but I don’t want to break the bank, I’m going to get some player pants and a cup from a friend so that is covered, the cage helmet works fine for what it is, I’m mainly concerned about chest protection and pads, I’m on a tight budget and the first game is June 2nd, I’ve looked online at used stuff and a lot of people are selling Large Intermediate Chest protectors for $50, I’m 5’7” and wondering if I could get away with this for ball hockey.
The second thing is pads I really want pads I can actually butterfly in and modding my own doesn’t seem doable at this point. I was searching for a used pair online and found a pair of used 32” Vaughn Velocity pads (see picture below) for $65 The seller says “useable but need some repair - straps, ect.” I’m wondering if these would be good to get, I’ve got time, I just don’t know if I can repair it, they would be good for this, ect. So thank you in advance for reading all of this novel, what advice can you give me? I mean are ice hockey pads even good for ball hockey?
