Any ad for gambling
The funny thing is that living here in Vegas we don't get advertisements for gambling, other than hockey sports betting through the NHL. If the casinos want locals to come in, they'll advertise restaurants or shows or anything other than gambling. So, ironically, all the sports betting stuff is particularly offensive to us.

I cringe so effing hard every time Shae gilgeous Alexander and Chet Holmgren pop up and start singing. It hurts my soul and takes years off my life 😂
How many freaking times are we going to see this AD? It's so annoying. I've been sick today, so I had the luxury of watching hockey all day. I must have seen that ad 3,836 times. I literally grab my remote and mute the ad.

Yep. He's pretty annoying.

And, elephant in the room, no one wants to admit that he'd get the same exact answers if he walked through downtown Toronto and asked enough people those same questions. But sure, hooray for selective editing! The "Rick Mercer" special.

It's not even that, it's the fact that the point they make should persuade a better to use their competitors.

That ad is such a smug self own. They are trying to show Americans dont know anything about hockey, and one of the random people off the street, when asked to name a team, says Calgary Canucks. Which is an AJHL hockey team! The geniuses at Sports Interaction obviously don't know, so they chose that interview to feature.

The premise is so idiotic to begin with. I could go to a downtown in Canada and it would not be that hard to find people utterly clueless about hockey. Im sorry my American comrades, we are not all like this.

Yeah, I don't really care about that, but the point they are making is that Americans don't know anything about hockey so why bet with their sports book. Um, that's exactly why I'd want to bet with their sports book.

What a pro wants is easy, but I also get a kick out of...

- The overly hipster Midas commercial. "I bought a shit car that needs a ton of maintenance and repairs, and I love it. I also take it to Midas again and again, implying that they don't actually fix it properly."

- The Navy Federal Credit Union commercials that appear to take a comedic approach to veterans experiencing PTSD flashbacks in everyday life. Know your audience, guys.

Tbs was running commercials while the play was going, unreal.
Why they dont shutter the whole thing and just licence the coverage from Canada, I have no idea. Would save millions and who would be upset? No hockey fans, certainly.

TNT's production isn't perfect but they at least put effort into their shit. I can accept mistakes.

ESPN+ was literally showing games last year where whoever was monitoring the shit forgot to turn off the "Commercial Break in Progress" prompt until after the OT winner was already scored.

FWIW, I can accept it over last year's PODS ad with the adult girl screaming "WE GOT THE HOUSE" while doing a cringey alternating fist pump.

She's screaming right as the ad starts too, so you don't have any warning to turn that shit off.

Canadian broadcast won't save you there. Sportsnet randomly ran 2 commercials in the middle of play like a couple weeks ago.

I don't even remember how long ago it was at this point but I remember (I think during HNIC) there used to be a bunch of "workplace safety" ads. One of them featured a woman in a restaurant kitchen or something slipping while carrying a pot of cooking oil(?) and burning her skin off and screaming for like 30 seconds. It was so extreme that I don't think they kept it around for very long.

Yeah these were brought up earlier in the thread......annoying shock-value ads that got scrapped pretty quick because parents were livid that the CRTC would allow the ads to be run during timeslots where little kids were watching.

They were awful.

Almost as bad as those condescending Questtrade ads that still see pretty steady airtime.

I have type II diabetes but I manage it well
It's a little pill with a big story to tell

This one makes me laugh, because you know it came from some geriatric that was high up in the ad company. No finger on the pulse of pop culture, young people in the meeting rolling their eyes but can't say anything as he/she is rambling on about how great an 80s/90s ad jingle will go over in 2024.

J.G. Wentworth himself cringes at that ad.

The first time I got high is the only time I ever saw this ad and I still think about her extremely mangled face to this day.

Anyways uh

What a pro easily the worst. I've seen the Nashville catfish ad like 3700 times and I still smile at it though so good job with that one.

NHL's ads are probably the best they've been since the "History Will be Made" playoff ads from 12-15 years ago.

The Colorado fans breaking up is good too.
