Looks good, but Ridley Scott is still attached to this.......arggggggg.

Please good sir, retire and never touch the franchise again.

Sorry, but it really wasn't. Both Prometheus and it set the franchise back a decade, or more.
Prometheus was almost a great movie but tripped over itself too many times. Covenant was outright dumb.

I thought Prometheus was pretty solid :dunno:
a movie that just didn't quite stick the landing

Always been a sucker for this franchise, the original was ahead of its time and I think had a much greater influence on modern filmmaking than it's often credited for. The next two movies were quality as well, and I enjoyed that they all had a very different feel despite basically being about the same thing. After those 3 however, well yeah mixed bag at best.

First impression is that I like that it looks like they've gone back to a spaceship for the setting. Might be a little old hat for claustrophobic tension building aliens attack space horror but familiarity isn't always a bad thing if the other parts are executed well.

Did you forget Alien cubed and Alien: Resurrection? It's not like the franchise was doing great (and I'm a bit of an Alien cubed defender).

Does every Alien movie have to have a strong female character in the lead role?

I'm a fan of the series (at least parts 1-3), but I think the franchise has run its course. There isn't really much more you can do with Xenomorphs.
It was an interesting idea to expand the universe with Prometheus, but that was ultimately ruined with Alien Covenant.

i didn’t hate covenant or Prometheus as much as everyone else. They aren’t great, and they’re better off as stand alones, not counting toward the overall story. But i still didn’t hate them.

This trailer looks really good

Are the xenomorphs that dangerous they could take over a planet. Seeing as one small CM detachment took out a fair few along with Ripley it seems so implausible they could win a global conflict.

Always found that threat a little illogical. Anyway I am sure people have said this before but in Aliens I am sure I saw a version where a xenomorph clambered onto the APC and was blown off by the turret gun. Never seen that version again.

In space, no one is over nineteen

Seriously, it's a little hard for me to buy that a crew of under-25 year olds would be out in space alone. In Alien and Aliens, the crews were between the ages of 28 and 52, which was believable, and the believability is why many of us loved them despite no one in them being near our ages. I'm not sure why they thought that they needed to cast only Gen Z to attract a Gen Z audience. They could've cast a few, plus a few Gen Y and a Gen X or two and it probably would've been more believable and had wider appeal.

I don't know about that. The larger the population base, the more exponential the threat.

A handful of colonists could never produce a larger enough threat.

It would basically be a zombie movie only the zombies are more cunning, faster, more hardy and more fearsome than any previous zombie.

The cast is too young IMO. Maybe there's an in-story reason for that?

Despite all the modern production technology we have, they just can't seem to match the organic feel of the original set.

According to a plot summary, they're colonists, so I imagine that the thinking was that youth is needed to start a colony. However, you still need people with experience to ensure its success and sending only 6 colonists (literally, IMDb lists only 6 actors being in the movie) makes no sense. In Aliens, Hadley's Hope had 60-70 families after only 20 years, so it was initially settled by well over a hundred colonists, and this movie takes place around the same time (between Alien and Aliens).

Watching the trailer first then a quick glance at the imdb summary, it seems pretty clear that they should be part of a larger colony they want to 'escape' and signed themselves up for some high risk/high reward salvage mission, or something along those lines.

There may very well be a story explanation for it, but it's hard to separate that from my cynical belief that it's a lame attempt to appeal to a younger demographic.
