It's conflicting news. There is no question the Ducks needed to move on from their assistant coaches. However, it's tough to cheer for people losing their jobs. I hope they both find another opportunity somewhere else.

On the bright side, this should be good news for the team. If the new assistant coaches can improve the Ducks's special teams to be just mediocre, it will have a huge impact on their wins.

PV needs to find the right people if the young players are to develop correctly. It is a clear area of weakness that can and should measurably be improved through coaching.

We lost a top-6 winger in Rico until the TDL. Rico was tied at 3rd in scoring for the Ducks last year with 42 points (18g + 24a). He was a +3 on a team full of negative ratings. On the faceoff dot, Rico was 1st on the team with 52.9% winning pct. ATOI for Rico was 17:35. What makes Rico more valuable was that he played on both the PP and the PK units.

We also lost a top-4RD (for us) in Lybushkin until the TDL. He scored only 4 points, all assists, and a -13 rating. Lybushkin was a staple on the PK, 2nd in blocked shots with 183 blocks, and 6th in hits with 112 hits.

There is also the addition of Cutter Gauthier's offense to factor in with the potential off-season additions of RW and RD.

This just means the bulk of the rest in goal differential (GD) is the growth or re-growth (Zegras) for our youths. Also, will the new PP coach improve our scoring?

There's just a lot of moving parts to see us surging towards a playoff spot, or make up 40 points next season.

Need a PP specialist who can take the strengths of our young group and have a Top 10 PP in the league. I honestly feel we have the skill to have that top PP, especially if adding a Top 6 winger this summer.

Yeah, Pro Sports is a meritocracy. I dont feel bad for guys who got a shot and couldnt live up to the expectations. And our expectations were low, but holy crap.
