We are striking gold at this year's draft. Book it.
If there’s a year to do it, it’s this one. I know there’s expectations that we might try to flip our first at the draft, but some of the players that might still be around by the time our pick comes up are very intriguing. (ie - Matt Wood, Jayden Perron, Mikhail Gulyavev, and possibly players like Andrew Cristall and Gabe Perrault could fall as well) LOTS of prospects with some pretty high upside for as far down as we’re picking.

Because we don’t really believe in Pyotr’s readiness yet, I think we end up eating Murray’s deal to swap the boston pick for our 2nd rounder. Then we sell our pick off for a good player. Then trade the Boston pick for a couple of 2nds. That way we get a good player, have 2 picks and get an emergency backup with nhl experience.

@Lempo

What is the word on Haltunnen? You think he rushed himself to Liiga to try to put up decent numbers against men to up his draft status from bottom 1st rounder to top half? Which back fired. Either way it seems like he still has a lot of potential and be a good pick when we trade down

There's nothing alarming, he's expected to make his breakthrough next season. HIFK was a mess and in the headlines in the early season as the "Chrisis HIFK", they only got it turned around after the Spengler Cup. Developing Halttunen wasn't a priority in the circumstances, not that it would have been anyway.

He did have one major concussion in his young career.

Ive seen his name going in the 20s and into the mid 40s. I like what I saw so, I figured I would ask.

He did get hit ugly in October. A singular online poster I saw felt that he perhaps wasn't quite the same after, but who knows.

I don't follow Liiga and don't know crap so whenever I'm asked of a Finn player, what I do is I google and do some checks at educatedly-guessed places. The consensus seem to not worry of him.

listening to the Friedman podcast, who is the dumb team that selects Kai Uchacz? Which team will dominate the conversations with the leagues race issue? They ignore the issue to draft his 50 goals scored in the 3rd round or later.

I dont usually pay a ton of attention of WHL teams and players that arent hurricanes draftees. I was unaware of this situation.

I wonder if Philly with their new President of Hockey Ops would take a Flyer on him.

I hear Jonesy loves Chaczi.

He's 20, an overager, so scoring 50G this year may not play a huge role in whether or not he's drafted. There's always a few PPG overagers who go undrafted bc they can dominate at that age but don't have much higher potential or skills that could grow into NHL level.

Also, here I was thinking maybe this just happened, but it was 2 years ago. He basically missed a whole season, went through a Diversity Coaching program, was evaluated and reinstated under a strict zero-tolerance policy. He's since played 2 years, so I presume he's had no incidents since? And here we go again with the whole "cancel culture" type thing...is he permanently punished, ridiculed, & irredeemable for something he did/said when he was 17? Has he "served his time" and made amends and deserve another chance? Has he truly changed or just putting up a front? There will always be a sect of folks who will forgive him too easily, and a sect who will forever see him as a villain...and they likely won't budge.

we have taken a couple since.

Kochetkov
Elynuik in 2016
Kochetkov and Andersen I don't count (he was one as well) since they're goalies, that can be a very different situation if they're stuck behind a veteran guy until their overage year(s). I also don't recall Elynuik being an over-ager, only a few months older than Bean who was young for that draft.

wrong name out of the hat. De Jong was a single overager. Lorentz was as well.

edit finally found it. Brendan Woods was the other 20 year old we selected.

Sea is calm around the Borg's house right now.

It's day of draft, it's 9AM and we still have our pick(s) for tonight.
