I have a hunch a Top 6 opportunity will be available for Callum next season.
He'll at least get 9 games. I'd imagine Landeskog will slot in on the 3rd line to start whenever that happens.

Alex Newhook drafted in 2019, signed two seasons later, probably would have been one if he wasn't NCAA.
Justin Barron drafted 2020, signed 10 months later.
Oskar Olausson drafted 2021, signed 4 months later.
Cal Ritchie will get a contract. No idea why that's even a concern.
The Avs need cheap talent. He will get every opportunity to make this club.

Ritchie will be signed July 1. I don't think he makes the team (though opportunity is there), but the contract is zero concern.

I wonder if from NCAA to KHL changes the amount of time we have his rights for? Must not have had many options (or any) in the transfer portal. Hope he can bounce back after a tough junior year. He was one of those dark horse prospects after a solid sophomore year.

No, it just matters where he was drafted from. It should be one more year but as he’s going to turn 24 and the Avs aren’t having him play pro in the system then they just aren’t interested.

Yup... Only caveat to this is if a player is on 'loan' when drafted we get into some oddities. Fairly rare though.
Buyalsky simply couldn't find a taker in the NCAA for a bigger role (because all he really can do is skate), so him going pro back home makes sense. I doubt he's full time KHL... if he is, that'll show how far the KHL has really fallen.

He was always going to be a boom/bust sort where the boom wasn't that high. Avs have a clear tendency to get enchanted with big guys who can fly despite other flaws. His whole game upon getting drafted was receive the puck on an outlet pass, head down and skate as fast as possible towards the net, make a low percentage shot. And that just never evolved... injuries didn't help. He was pretty low percentage to begin with. Guys like Blake, Lilliberg (who Arizona stupidly decided not to sign), Ufko, Duke, and Roy all going within a round or so later hurts.

Wallstrom has one of the single best performances in net that I have tape on, an OT win vs the Janesville Jets in Feb of 23. Dude was absurd in that game.
