ETA: I just checked, it’s 6-5 now. Flames scored 6 on 22 shots. Oilers 5 on 27. Oilers goalie with a 0.727 so far, Flames goalie (Markstrom??) blowing him away with a 0.814.

I understand a lot of people in Ottawa didn't like him. He was even barred from going into some restaurants in the city. But what you did do is pull the Sens out of Financial instability and keep the team in Ottawa.
I believe he truly loved that team, just maybe he didn't think it was in his lifetime financially going to make sense to build another arena in Ottawa.
It will be interesting to see who takes ownership of the team, if it switches hands, and if they decide to finally put an arena in the downtown area. I still think that vacant property beside the Parliament buildings would be a beautiful location for an arena, right on the water. But maybe that ship has sailed now, I'm not up to date.

Eugene Melnyk purchased the Senators in 2003, saving the franchise from bankruptcy. During his time as owner, the Senators reached their first and only Stanley Cup final in 2007.
