According to the score, Radek Bonk will not be qualified by the Ottawa Senators. Now that would be a great pickup for the Oilers if they could get him for 2.0 or 2.5 Million. I imagine this also brings down Nedved's asking price. I'm still dreaming of a Nedved Bonk, 1-2 center combination on the Oilers.

I agree this would be a great pickup for the Oilers, but at that bargain price, don't you think that other teams would be interested? Just off the top of my head, Nashville, Minnesota, Vancouver, LA, could all use someone like Bonk. If that many teams might be interested in Bonk, I wonder if the price wouldn't quickly escalate beyond the bargain zone.

I'd take a flyer on him but not a penny more then 2.5 million if Neded doesn't re-sign. And no............I don't want Bonk and Nedved on the same team. Both are inconsistent and will drive fans and coaches nuts!

I remember the Oilers were intested in him in 1994 but he went 3rd and we had to take Jason B

Plan A - nedved at 3 mill
Plan B - Gomez
Plan C - Bonk

IMO, Bonk is on the verge of becoming a niewendyk or shanahan - big, smart, and will put up good numbers. Small market teams have to buy low and sell high and now is the time to get Bonk. We seen the chemistry of nedved and devo and I think that the devo/bonk could duplicate that. I would love to see lowe get bonk to sign a 3 year 8.5 mill deal with Bonk with the Senators getting isbister in return.

The sens need to get a little bigger on the wings and this move saves them cash. At least they get something in return for Bonk.

You can't trade Isbister for Bonk and get Bonk to sign a deal 3 years for $8.5 mil.

He needs to be qualified at $3.5 mil, or he is a UFA... meaning if you sign him for the contract you suggested it would be through free agency.

he would ufa if he isn't qualified. The chances of anyone offering Bonk 3.5 mill are slim to none. If lowe offered him 8.5 over 3 years, Bonk would be all over that. Getting Bonk to agree to a 3 year deal would have to be done before the trade is finalized.

But if Bonk is cool with 8.5 over 3 years, why deal with Ottawa at all? Why not just wait until he becomes an UFA (when the Sens don't qualify him), and sign him to the new deal?

Are you sure about that?

Don't you think the Senators would have at least attempted to sign bonk to a lower deal first?

I wouldn't put money down on any player being "all over" a deal that pays them less money... no matter what the current league wide situation is.

Besides, if you could get him to sign a lower deal, or are sure you can, why trade for him? Why not just sign him as a UFA?

I don't think Bonk is going to be playing for less than the $3.5 he made last year... no links, just a feeling I have.

The only way Bonk takes a lower paying deal is if it has the same kind of time frame that Primeau's did. I could see him taking a 4 year deal that paid 11 million or so. Emphasis on the 4 years however.

So, in essence, I am agreeing with db.... some of you never thought you would ever see that did you?
