Interesting prospal mentioned by Wil Fraser on team1260 post game show mentioned would you do Denis Grebeshkov straight up for Hejda? I would do it we need that type of player shutdown dman. I wonder if the Blue Jackets would do it
I like Hejda. When they were compared in the poll section, I voted that he was the better player.
But no, I wouldn't do Grebeshkov for him straight up. As good as Hejda is, low event top-four defenseman are easier to find than 40+ point puck movers. The abundance of these types maybe skews things a bit, but remember in 06/07 when we had a Hejda and no Grebeshkov. Worst Oilers team maybe ever, and it started on the back end.
I love how this board loves to turn back time more then cher

Yeah. Grebs is on pace for a 40 point minus 40 season.
Grebs may be a better player by virtue of being an up and coming puck moving D with nice offensive skills... but I'd still do the trade. Edmonton still badly needs balance on the blueline. I would roll the dice and take Hejda back, I bet the Oilers would be better for it. It's nice to have puck moving offensive defenseman, that's fine. You don't need 4 of them. I think Hejda would play his position here much better than Grebs.
But instead of Grebeshkov I'd prefer they trade Gilbert. Almost just for the sake of getting that ridiculous contract the **** out of here, even if he is steadier in his own end.

1) Hejda is not a low event top-four defenseman - he is probably the best low event defenseman in the league.
Other than Wednesday's game (his first after the injury), the opponents never scored a goal this season while Hejda was on the ice. He averages more than 22:40 per game (no pp time) against the top opponents & completely shuts them down.
As an example, he played 25:42 tonight including 7:10 killing penalties - no goals against...
2) In 06/07 we had no defense because Hejda was injured. You are correct we had no Grebeshkov but we also had no Hejda (or Staios who also was out for the season during the March 7th game)....
Having said that, I really, really like Grebeshkov - he played 25:08 tonight including 7:25 killing penalties... And yes, they scored two PP goals but Grebs is six years younger than Hejda...
In a nutshell, I would like to have them both.....
One of the problems I see on here, is that people are reluctant to trade a player that shows any signs of becoming a " better" player. Right now, the only way the Oilers will manage any sort of a trade is if they allow the other team to totally screw them in the deal. It's going to cost them an "A" player just to get a decent "B" player back.
The Oilers need to identify key components to the team when it comes to July instead of always chasing the big fish. take care of your team and then look at what you have to spend/trade.
Hejda was a bad loss, but Glencross was unacceptable. Yes the topic has been beaten to death, but it's true. We need a few Glencross type players in the bottom 6.
The GM down South was courting the guy (Golfing with his dad a lot) right before he even hit FA.
I would prefer Hejda to say in Columbus then get traded back to Edmonton. When Hejda went down, the team was sinking faster then the Titanic. His first game back was last night against the Sharks and from what I hear he made 5 key defensive plays. Not sure how he did tonight but has an assist and was a +1.

Lowe/Tambo: "hold on (insert name of fellow GM/player agent here), some nobody wants to come back to Edmonton, but we're more interested in (Marian Hossa/Paul Kariya/Jaromir Jagr/Dany Heatley)."

No way I trade Gilbert for Denis "I'll Only Sign For One Year" Grebeshkov. Gilbert is signed and Grebs is a pain to sign. End of story.
