Anyone who has watched this team over the past two years is aware that his skills are in rapid decline. Last year he was unable to capitalize on many glorious scoring chances and this year he isn't even getting any scoring chances. His faceoff skills have deteriorated and the team has put forth many lackluster efforts under his watch. If Torts' policy of accountability is more than mere lip service, the leadership structure of this team must be changed. The sooner the better.
It's not even that his skills are declining. When Renney left he apparently said some not so kind things about his leadership skills... What I don't like is that Torts has to rip this team to get anything done. Drury isn't taking it upon himself to motivate this team. They come out flat every game. It would great for him to at least lead by example and try... Maybe take the body... forcheck hard. Force turnovers. Fight someone who he has no business fighting... but theres nothing
I honestly don't know what his issue is, I can understand having a lack of skills but the effort doesn't seem to be there either.
When I look for him on the ice it's like trying to find Waldo.
Sometimes I think that Drury died in Buffalo and we just catch glimpses of his specter from time to time.
I actually agree 100%. You want your captain to be a spitting image of how your team plays, and if Drury is that spitting image than I guess torts wants his team to be invisible. I say do what vancouver did and give it to Lundy. If Gabby could stay healthy he'd be my next choice.
I agree. He is showing nothing on the ice except that he is a 7.5mil waste of cap space.
Please give it to Lundqvist or Gaborik or Prospal. These three guys show the spark and intensity that this teams needs right now.
He is what he kinda always has been. But now that he is on a lesser squad, his few offensive abilities dont show up.
Still a good PK'er and Face off man but its the money thing all over again. Too much money for someone who isnt a dominant or semi dominant player.
Shame.
I don't really agree. I have never really given Drury any **** before. But it doesn't even look like he's trying right now. Frankly, it's the only reason I'll openly rip him.
Captain Clutch? Where the **** is the clutch goals when we need em? Where are the goals period? And if you can't score, where is the puck handling and passing and setting up plays and checking and forechecking?
I think it's time he loses the C and it's given to someone who gives effort day in and day out. Henrik. Agree 100% to pull a Vancouver and give it to the netminder.
I don't know what to say anymore but this team needs something to change right now. Drury is a washout. Redden on the other hand, he's stepped his game up and is one of our best defenseman now, lol never thought I'd say that.

How about Cally ? This is definitely how I want my team to play.

Cally already has the A. I think he's too young for the C but I wouldn't be unhappy if torts gave him it. I'd rather it go to someone like Hank or Prospal ... or maybe Gabby.
Drury is just awful and hasn't had a clutch goal in well, I don't remember.
I'm not sure what stripping Drury of the captaincy is going to accomplish. There is still a glaring lack of leadership regardless of who wears the "C." Taking away the captaincy isn't going to turn any of these players into the second coming of Messier.
cmon Drury is old school though. Remember when we would sign players from other organizations for massive amounts of money to hopefully make ours like theirs and they wouldn't even try... now we even make them our captain !
I don't understand why he is a step too late on the forecheck consistently. He just doesn't get there. And the puck comes out. Several times tonight Lisin and Callahan were getting into the zone quickly enough to create a battle in the corner - but Drury stays high and then when they need him to support - he's not getting there. It's really noticeable. I'm not sure he has the head for this puck pressure style.
That being said, the whole team didn't establish the cycle once the entire night. It was really really unwatchable.
