I didn't see a game thread already. If one was already posted, I apologize.
Blues got owned by the Kings last season...these are the types of games (like the ATL game) that they need to win if they are going to contend for the division title. Hopefully they've reviewed enough game tape to see what went wrong last year, and made the adjustments necessary to get the job done.
I don't know if the team is ready. They didn't seem to be against Atlanta. The Kings are on a decent 2 game tear, scoring 6 goals each game. I have a feeling we break even tonight.
Each game for LA this season so far, one of the teams has scored 6 goals.
As a Kings fan im saying that our PK is horrible, but watch out for our first line they are dangerous offensivly and our 3rd line in my opinion is one of the best shutdown lines in the NHL that can stop any teams 1st line, however I know that the Blues have amazing young talent that are just waiting to break out just like the Kings.
Its going to be a fun game to watch and goodluck to both of our teams.
These are my two favorite teams to watch in the West rite now. As a Kingsfan I am very excited. You guys have an absolutely stacked team from top to bottom. Us playing you guys so tight and barely holding onto the win lets us know we are playing well. Can't wait to see you guys in the playoffs. Cream of the crop for the next two years in the NHL is Washington and Pittsburgh in the East and St. Louis and LA in the West.
sorry to intrude...I have Backes and Perron on my fantasy team and granted its only been 4 games...what is going on? Backes is not even helping me with PIMS...is it just bad luck or do they look as bad as the stats on my pool!?
I think Perron has looked good, he's drawing penalties and doing some good things with the puck. Backes has been invisible though
Backes was just flat out ineffective tonight. I don't know if he's putting too much pressure on himself to try to not have a slow start or what but he doesn't look nearly as good as he did ending the season last year at anything.
Other random thoughts after getting back from the game. EJ's passes are borderline too hard. There were a few times others just couldn't keep that puck on their stick. Something that doesn't really carry over to the broadcast is the sound of one of his passes hitting a stick(or when one of his shots hit something it is much louder than anyone else. That hold in on the PP where he lost his glove was a thing of beauty. Overall EJ is just a joy to watch when he's on the ice I'm just naturally drawn to watch him. Bar none the most talented player on the ice.
Pietrangelo looks drastically better than last year. He played a nice simple game and made a few nice outlet passes. There was one shift in the third where he seemed to be behind the play the whole time we were trapped in our own zone(too much reacting versus just acting) other than that he was good. I like him paired up with EJ that puck moves quick with those two. You could see/hear him barking some orders out there too I liked that.
Perron, Kariya McDonald and Boyes all looked fine the passes just aren't clicking in yet. They all have a good idea of where one another is it's just a matter of finding that chemistry and passing touch and then the scoring is going to explode.
Who was the Kings player that got whacked by EJ's shot in the 2nd? I could not get a good view of their number at all.
Yeah, EJ's shot was deflected by Perron straight into Doughty's mouth.
Tough game to come away with no points. Mason played well enough, and the second goal was a bad fluke (the deflection off Perron's stick)...but the defense hung Mason out to dry multiple times. He made some big-time saves to even allow the team a chance to come back.
It was nice to see Steen finally bury one of those chances. He and McClement have been the Blues' two most consistent forwards (Walt isn't far behind there).
I didn't think Pietro played nearly as well as some of the earlier comments suggest. But it was just his first game, and he's not the only one on D that was making some bad mistakes (including EJ), but EJ creates some great chances and makes some fantastic plays to compensate for his errors. I'm so glad to have him back.
I hope the Sweden hangover is finished now. I thought Thursday they looked to have low energy and some dead legs...tonight was better, but still lacked consistent intensity, which was usually the calling card of the Blues last season.
Janssen in, but never dropped the gloves. I was pretty surprised by that.
It just seems like the forwards are not playing as linemates. Individual guys are skating alone and not clicking with each other.
Too much one-on-one skating. Perron, for example, is trying very hard but he's doing too much solo stuff and not finding teammates with passes. He has his head down too much when he has the puck.
