Wasn't Williams supposed to be the next Hull according to Leaf fans?

Good signings for the Wings. I always thought Newbury looked like he could chip in some solid minutes for the Leafs and Williams has a surprising 11 points in 31 career NHL games.

I still don't understand why the Leafs didn't resign Williams.
Hopefully he doesn't end up biting Burke in the ass as a Wings project..

This is a good signing for the red wings…I don’t get it the only thing the guy does is score….and we need good young scores…this has ron Wilson all over it

He has a legit shot, unfortunately that is all he can do. I wish him the best of luck with Detroit, could be anouther of their late blooming projects. (Of course if any other team wants him I am pretty sure he will go through waivers in October)

Perhaps he wanted to try his luck elsewhere. He's been a Leaf for 5 years and still hasn't managed to crack the line-up fulltime.

Probably. It kind of depends though, if Detroit decides to keep Abdelkader in the minors to develop instead of on the team, one of them might be playing with the big club come October.

william's back checking is the reason behind departure

hes got a really a NHL shot, but nothing else really...

newbury had his best chance, looked like he earned a spot until he got the nasty injury...

with all the prospect signings, i think burke is just trying to create more opportunity for younger players that have a better chance making the big club

And he expects to crack the Detroit line up? With all the depth?

Newbury's potential is 4th line grinding center and Williams has no defencive game whatsoever so he needs to be a winger on a scoring line to be productive. VERY different players.

Good depth signings for the Wings. Neither guy is spectacular, but these are the exact type of players the Wings pick up and turn into someone useful. I bet they will both become defensively adept in the coming years.

Yeah, and. I never said either would be better than Abdelkader, but the train of thought I've been hearing on abbs is that the Wings would like him to see 1st line minutes in the minors. If they send him down, one of these two might have a shot to stick.
