They wont give Hodgson top 6 minutes to start. That would be ridiculous.
I figure his minutes will mirror what the Moose are doing with him.
Put him on the 3rd/4th line, ease him into a bigger role. If while playing on the third line it becomes apparent that Hodgson could be doing more, he'll get bumped up.
If all goes well, I bet he could get some solid icetime after the first quarter or so of the season.
I dont think if will be ridiculous.
Not saying hes the best player, but you give your best players the best minutes.
The question is...what are they going to do with Grabner? He has to be in the top 6 as he doesnt fit in a checking or energy role, and he has clarly outgrown the AHL. If Grabner cant crack the top 6 next year out of traing camp, they should consider dealing him to a team that can fit him in a scoring role.
I don't think he's clearly outgrown the AHL yet. Seems like he really worked on his defensive game and consistency this season but he's yet to dominate the AHL. I don't see him losing anything by playing another season in the AHL under Scott Arniel and in such a good organization as the Moose and then having a full-time spot on our second-line in 2010/11.
Watching Hodgson last night was a thing of beauty. The kid was pure class and made an incredible play to nearly set up a goal. He followed that up with an NHL calibre laser. Hopefully I get to watch this kid at least 3-4 more times this year.
I posted this in the Manitoba Moose stickied thread, but I figured I could repeat it here as well...
Cody Hodgson has put up top-six numbers despite playing short shifts with Rallo and Collins on the fourth line. Coach Arniel has to reward the kid for his efforts sooner than later by giving him more minutes.
The kid is amazing on faceoffs, winning all but one. He has been great on the inside... along the boards he has lost some battles. I like that when McIver lost his stick and glove in the fight, there were a few Moose players on the ice, and of all the Moose players, he picked up the stick and glove and handed it to McIver. Just a nice touch from a young player who didn't have to do that.
His lone assist that was converted by... hot damn, I forget already was amazing... I have seats right next to the goal judge for every playoff game so I am fortunate to see all the action up close. My pretty face (it is too!!!... jerks!) is in a few of the pics on the official Moose website. Just look for the guy in the Moose jersey.
Imagine what this kid would do with top six minutes playing with some of the bigger name talent on our team.
btw I am getting his game worn jersey for all the home playoff games he's in. I asked over half a year in advance. That will be my prized piece next to my military Schneider. I love my Moose!
btw His skating is phenomenal, did anyone see him skate around that one Houston player to get that shot off in Friday's game? Everyone's jaw dropped to the ground.
P.S. Would anyone be interested in seeing my game worn jersey collection? All Canucks prospects. Some full-time NHLers. Some will be one day. Also, any game worn jersey collectors here?
Putting Hodgson on our 3rd line to start the season is clearly the best option, it'll keep him away from some of the pressure to be too big of a contributor and let him focus on his own game. Besides, his linemates would likely be some combination of Bernier/Pyatt/Wellwood/Raymond, it's not as if there's no offensive talent there. When he shows he has eased in to the NHL game, then you can start bumping up his minutes.

I would like to see him attend training camp and earn the job before appointing him to it, although I do fully expect him to do just that.
Raymond and Bernier would make very solid linemates in my opinion.

Yeah I agree. Raymond and Bernier have both become defensively responsible to a degree under AV this season, start him on a 3rd line with those 2 guys and go from there.
Not as good as the first 2 games but he didn't look out of place. Considering his line mates and the fact he has gone from first line to fourth line minutes he has been amazing.
I would like to see him play with Grabner at some point. He looked great in game 3. I didn't realize he had such a quick release. combine that with his great speed and he might turn out to be a good nhl player after all. I flamed someone for comparing him to Havlat before ( don't remember who ) but he could actually turn out to be that good.

if he develops really well, i could see him getting a call up after about 15-30 games? he may even start the year in vancouver if he has a strong camp but be sent down after 10 games or so. either way he should polish his pro game in the ahl before getting a full-time job in vancouver. as good as he is both offensively and defensively, if he hits a slump/has trouble scoring, or makes costly defensive mistakes, it could hurt his confidence. let him get into a groove in the ahl and get him some time on the nucks' 3rd line (with the odd pp and 2nd line). keep him sharp and motivate him to make the big squad, don't give him a free pass.

He can't play in the AHL next season because he's too young. It's NHL or OHL and he's not going to gain much playing in the OHL anymore.
