The Capitals unveiled the team logo and jerseys at Churchill Square this morning. The Oilers seem to be bringing the fun of being at a baseball game back to Telus Field.
Edmonton, AB - A little blast of winter in early spring didn't stop the boys of summer from an exciting unveiling of the Edmonton Capitals new uniform and logo. The Caps rolled out their new look by rolling up to Churchill Square and a baseball game broke out in front of hundreds of curious onlookers in the downtown core. The new jerseys decked out in white, Edmonton Oilers blue and Vintage Oilers orange have a traditional look to them while creating an appeal for the younger fan.
"One of the most exciting aspects of launching a new brand is to give it an identity and see that identity come to life." said Edmonton Oilers President & CEO and Capitals Governor Patrick LaForge.
"You can tell this team belongs in the Oilers' family and the kids will have fun with a new character that will really make its mark on the Edmonton sports scene."
The secondary logo on the shoulder patch features the new Edmonton Capitals super hero character whom fans will have a chance to name in an upcoming contest. He appears standing with his arms crossed, holding a baseball with Edmonton's downtown horizon in the background all framed with a cape and set in front of a spectacular, signature Edmonton River Valley sun set.
The players are going to love it." exclaimed Capitals Manager Brent Bowers. "Any professional ball player should take a lot of pride when they put that jersey on every day. Our new jersey is definitely something to be proud of. The new logo and colors have a fresh, clean look that this ball team needs. It's very classy."
Edmonton native Sheehan May is the winner of the ' Capitals Design The Logo Contest and will receive 2 Edmonton Capitals Season Seats in the reserved grandstand plus a plaque displayed at Telus Field recognizing his contribution to the team.

Good thing they didn't leave it up to a grade 3 kid like they did with the last baseball team. One thing for sure is that I am going to attend mroe games this summer than I did during the entire time the cracker cats were here.
Damn those uniforms look nice imo. I'll have to check out a couple games this summer and maybe even pick up a uni. Check the multimedia section of the site to see the pics from Churchill.
I can't wait to go to the ball park again. I just wish that they could somehow bring AAA ball back. Doesn't sound good though, so hopefully the Capitals era blows away the Crackerjacks!!

I would settle for AA or A at this point. Perhaps it's doable with Katz's deep pockets?

If you are able to settle for AA, I think the Golden Baseball League would be an ok option. Since baseball officials gauge the GBL's level of play to be around the AA level.
As for the logo, I think it looks pretty snazzy, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but at least it looks cool. I am a little disappointed that they aren't bringing Homer back as mascot, I am sure they have the uniform in a back room somewhere, all they need to do is give it a new paint job.

Interesting, I wasn't aware. Thanks for the tip. Although it'd still be nice to follow players through the minor league system and watch them try to catch on in the majors (I know there are exceptions like Scott Richmond).
amazing logo and amazing jerseys, the hats could be better with the actual logo on it instead of the EC but meh, definitely will be buying the white jersey
AA is not going to come to town, they are all located in the South. single A is not that exciting (we used to have rookie A in Lethbridge and I was never that impressed).
Personally I think the EC could be sharper on the caps but the uniform is sweet. Good job by the Oilers smart marketing so far, reasonable prices. I will be taking my family out to at least one game this year.
Bad News: Tijuana had to pull out of the 2009 GBL season due to the Swine Flu and other problems so that leaves a bit of a whole in the schedule
Good News: Out of the dispersal draft, the Capitals acquired one of the best players in all of independent baseball in Darryl Brinkley. Just 2 years ago he had an amazing year with the Vipers (.400 BA, 14 Home Runs, 82 RBI's in 87 games winning the Independent Player of the year award) and had a strong season last year hitting .350 with 8 Home Runs, 60 RBI's and 30 Stolen Bases.
I have no idea how this guy never made it to the MLB, he had great numbers in the minors (A career .336 hitter in AAA) and at any level he has never batted lower than .280 in a season.
