Wow overreaction much? Sure Ruutu is a dirty player, but this isn't top 10 on his list. What is the worst a human bite can do? Give Peters a cut?
You have a point here. I understand the boners of Ruutu-haters, there's nothing to defend his action on this one. But yelling him out of the league just because of biting someone is ridiculous! There's actually dangerous things you can do on the ice and biting someones glove isn't on the top of that list.
Haven't seen the play but if he did bite, he'll get a suspension. That's it. He's only been suspended once before in his NHL-career. I think it tells us that while he's one of the most annoying player to opposite teams, he isn't THAT dirty.
Oh, and compared to other fans garbage Ive read on the main forums. Ill gladly say that us Ottawa fans are one of the most impartial bunch overall on here.
I hope you do realize the irony of this statement. Calling yourselves "the most impartial" is, in itself, an unbelievably biased statement.
Scott Niedermeyer takes a slapshot at Alfreddson: Ottawa Fans want him shot. Jarkko Ruutu bites someone: Some Ottawa fans defend him.
Give me a break. Every team has biased fans and for them most part are all equally biased. The above point wasn't to single out Ottawa fans. Like I said, every team has fans like that. Just look at some of the Islanders fans who were screaming about Tucker injuring Peca yet gave a standing ovation for Chris Simon as he was escorted off the ice after hacking at Hollweg's neck. And just so I can't be called out for bias, look at how many Ranger fans defended Hollweg even after the 3rd, 4th, and even 5th checks from behind yet are still chanting about a clean hit Dennis Potvin had 30 years ago. Don't even try to convince me the Senators fans here defending him aren't biased. Don't give an inherent homerism as an excuse, because the true fans are the Senator fans here that are freely displaying how ridiculous Ruutu's biting is. The fans defending him sure as hell are biased, and every team will have plenty of instances in which fans display it as well.
Having worked with kids who are sometimes severely mentally disturbed, biting is not uncommon. The issue with this is that Peters pulled away, which is where the damage is done 99 percent of the time. The bite itself was probably more surprising, but the instinctual reaction of jerking his hand away probably hurt like hell.
What he should have done -- and what is taught to people who work in the mental health field -- is push forward with that hand and push the back of the biter's head into the wall, or in this case it would be glass or the dividers between the benches. It usually stuns the person enough that their mouth opens up and you can remove your finger(s) with relative ease and minimal damage.
Now that I'm more or less out of that field, I really don't want to think about these things, though.

But I can't defend Ruutu on this one, just a stupid move. I loved Ruutu when he first joined the team, and still love when he gets under people's skin, but hate when he does stupid stuff like this
