kings v. Avs: Post game THOUGHTS n TIDBITS

Mrs. Zad here. Mr. Zad asked me to start the post game thread.

We are on the 110 heading back home.

Ready, set, go!

* * *

BACK FROM STAPLES

IT'S NOT A PENALTY JUST BECAUSE IT HURT HIM: Neither ref had their arm up after the hit. Not 5 seconds after the hit. Not 10 seconds after the hit. When it appeared that Foote may be hurt, that was the FIRST time that they even considered calling a penalty...and that...is....********. The consequence of the hit does not make a hit a penalty. This is the same nonsense that was called on Brownie.

ERSBERG: The ice is melting a bit. He had an off night. Tonight, he looked just like Jason out there. No critical saves. Lots of routine ones. One bad goal (the first one).

BROWN: He is dangerous every time he is out there. That C on his sweater might as well be an S because he is our man of steel.

KOPITAR: This is getting silly. I hope Kopi is saving up these goals because at this rate I expect him to score 8 in one game pretty soon.

SULLY: Does O'Sullivan remind any of you of Gaborik? Serious question because his skating, lateral movement and puck handling style remind me a lot of him...I think that superstar scoring forward we all want is already here...and wears number 12. In a couple of seasons, he may be up there leading the league in goals...

O'D HIT: I couldn't figure out why the Av's player went down like a bag of pucks. It seemed like such a routine check. Was it just perfect timing? Would like to see a replay of that and the Zeiler hit again.

POWER PLAY: Enough of the set up, hold, hold, look for a seam, make sure everyone expects a shot, SHOOT! One timer anyone? Anyone? Our PP is so damn predictable. Most goalies in this league will stop a puck they see...a little more creativity boys. Let's get those cross ice passes, quick / short passes to the point men, low red line passes for one timers. They either go in or create rebounds.

DOUGHTY: No joke. Thank GOD we didn't get the 1st overall draft pick. This kid may be our Lidstrom in 3-4 years.

Tonight, we just didn't play our game. We played their game. We were letting shots get through to Ersberg. We were letting them penetrate down low. Our forwards weren't backchecking for the first 1 and 1/2 periods. We weren't managing the front of our net very well. All the things we have done so well, we did average tonight...and STILL MANAGED TO GET A POINT.

Chazz, it was great to meet you and have a beer together.

Meh. Zeiler bad. O'Donnell good. Lucky to come away with a point. Not greatly played but not the worst game of the season (though it felt like it from time to time).

I don't know if I like this new "shoot first" mentality. I get that you can't score if you don't shoot, but it seems that passing isn't even an option anymore.

Players seem to be commenting alot on the bad ice at Staples center this season. I wonder if that's a reason.

My patience for Zeiler is very short. Sit him next game please, and use Richardson or Armstrong. Either would truly be an improvement.

Penalties and Budaj ruined it for the Kings...

Brown's unassisted goal... beats 4 Avs and the goalie on his own, wow!

Can I see a video of that hit because at the game it looked like a hockey play.

And the jersey is ugly.

I would like to see it again as well. I saw it from low, just behind the Colorado bench, and it looked clean to me, and neither referee had a hand up after the hit. I was shocked to see Zeiler go to the box and then get the major and get tossed.

I'm not saying it was legal or not, just that my first impression was that it was clean.

Zeiler's hit wasn't smart but basically Foote tried to stop and Zeiler's momentum just kept going, if Zeiler wasn't skating as fast I think it wouldn't have been a problem.

O'Donnell's hit on Wolski was unfortunate because Wolski slipped and Odie was already on his way to make the hit. So basically Wolski's head ended up between Odie's ass and the boards.

I didn't like the jersey either...at all...It looks better on the players than it did when I saw pictures of it but still did not dig it at all.

Exactly. He only got tossed because Foote was hurt. Neither of the zebras had their hands raised until all the Av's came rushing at him.

From my view, it looked like OD's hand smashed his head into the dasher boards such that it was like getting popped on both sides of the head at once. KAPOW, Lights out!

As for Zeiler's hit, as I stated above, I thought it was clean, and you, Zad and I, saw the same thing: a non-call by either ref, and then a post-hoc decision to penalize because somebody got their bell rung!

The way some ref's are now interpreting boarding is that if someone gets hurt getting slammed into the boards, its boarding, but that is not the rule. Its a joke.

This is hockey for Chrissakes! If you can't stand the contact, go bake some cookies in the kitchen. Or play hopscotch or jump rope for all I care.

Come on...

I agree he allowed a crap goal, but was solid the rest of the way.
The ice is melting? Did he allowed 7 or 8 goals?

Good explanation of Wolski's mishap.

As far as Zeiler's hit is concerned, Foote looked back and saw him coming. It was a ******** call.

I think you misunderstand. I didn't say he played terrible. He had an off night and that is partially a compliment to him because an off night for him = a good or typical night for Jason. Budaj outplayed him tonight and that's ok, it happens. If he has a game like this for every 10 solid games he plays, I will take it because we damn near won this game.

Which Jim Fox commented on the Kings broadcast that they are allowed to do. When there is an injured player, they are allowed to confer with the other ref, and linesmans to make the call.

Was at the game....good effort by both teams. Budaj was looking like the goat after Brown scored and we took the lead, but man did he come up big late.

I like the jerseys, a lot - in fact, my brother was feeling generous and bought us each one and the matching RBK hat, so I like it even more now

I loved how they had the old Kings helmet stickers going.....we had great seats (section 112, row 5) so we could make out that detail.

Doughty again, impresses as always. My new 3rd jersey will soon have his name and number on it. When he is in his prime, he's going to be one of the top 3 defensemen in the league, mark my words.

Kings jerseys should be all black with nothing on them.

The jersey looks great!

The Brown, Kopitar, O'Sullivan line is awesome. O'Sullivan with a goal assisted by Kopitar, Brown also with a goal.

Doughty had a great game, again. Both defensively and offensive he's great!

Brown has great moves. Simmonds had some nice stick handeling again.

Glad Ivanans was on the ice with the line brawl

Ersberg with a solid game again. He's a great goalie, and in my opinion a true number one.

Frolov has such great puck control, when he was skating around the net and went back in front of it he "simply" keeps it with him all the time. Great player, great goal.

GO KINGS GO!!!!
Above my post game... post from the GDT.

"I heard it, then I turned around and I saw Foote on the ice," Colorado forward Ian Laperriere said. "I kind of knew it wasn't a clean hit because (Zeiler) is known for that. He did that last year, checking guys from behind and stuff like that. So we all jumped in there to back up our teammate."
Here's a quote from Ian...I'm wondering if that's true, does anyone recall a hit like that from Zeiler?

I don't know but to me it looked like Foote stopped and Zeiler maybe didn't expect him to do that already...I don't know if this was as "dirty" as some people say it is.

Looking from a different point of view, after Zeiler's hit on Foote the game went in to Kings favour for a while. First killing 3 min penalty, after that goals came....
As for Kopitar, he's aproaching to the level we used to from him in offense, while his defensive play is already better then seasons before.

Yeah I agree, with not a very good play we got a point. That's something.

True, Kopitar was making nice plays with the puck, and he set up O'Sullivan for the goal.

The Kings got caught on their heels the first few periods, just forgot the defensive game-a little reminicent of last years team.

They definitely battled back which was nice, and got some good goals.

There was outstanding play by everyone and mistakes by everyone-pretty equal that way!

I think Kopitar played a much stronger game tonight-getting back to himself, nice drive to the net on that one play and stronger on the puck-he and O'Sullivan seemed to be cycling it well, and it lead to a goal.

As good as Doughty is, and he is special, I really am appreciating O'Donnell. He is so good for this team.

Ersberg didn't have his best game, but he still made some good saves, and we could have come out of this with a win. Great we got a point.

Terry Murray is so interesting. He focussed on the positives of the game. He stays so calm. I can just visualize Crawford after this game. What a difference.
