Marc-André Fleury

What's up with him giving up back to back 4-6-4 goals a'game!? I mean I know Whitney and Gonchar are injured, but why is Pittsburgh letting in so many goals, despite them winning most of their games by outscoring the opposition?!

Is this going to keep on happening for the rest of the season or is this just a short slump? I need info!

He's a bust... Pens should trade him before his value drops any further.

I will say this now before history proves it:

Marc-Andre Fleury is the best goal keeper in the National Hockey League this season, and will be the best goalie in the league for the foreseeable future.

He gave up a semi-bad one against the Red Wings, other than that I dunno I think he's been solid. The Pens have been blowing leads left and right and it hasn't necessarily been much of his fault.

The team in front of him doesn't know how to hold a lead.

Fortunately, they sure know how to get it back.

He's what.. 23, 24? And he has kids even younger than that in front of him trying to play defense and protect leads..

Letang and Gologoski have been pleasant surprises, but they are raw. Some of MAFs goals have been bad luck, some have been poor positioning. I'm not too concerned about it. All goalies go through spells where they are a little off. MAF is no different.

Fleury hasn't been his best, but he has been solid.

The fault lies with the mediocre to poor defensive play by their forwards and mediocre to poor play by their defensive corps. With Whitney and Gonchar out, the Pens' forwards needed to pickup some slack and they haven't. For some reason, the forwards think they don't need to play defense when the team has a 1-2 goal lead.

The Pens left him out to dry last night. None of the goals we really his fault, one nice redirect, two odd man shorties, and one fluke floater.

So Lundqvist, Vokoun, Luongo, Giguere, and Nabokov are getting hurt? Is that what you're saying.

Detroit threw so many shots at him and threw so many bodies at the goal because we knew the defense couldnt move them. Fleury's numbers are pretty good if you think about injuries and who is top 4 actually are.

Wait till Gonchar and Whitney are 2-3 weeks back into it; his numbers will start to drop big time. *by drop i mean his gaa and Sv% will become better.

No, considering he can get a win giving up 6 you should keep him. The Pens' will keep scoring lots of goals, and will eventually give up less chances.

I thought about this too, we just have to wait leTANGed to defend MAF.

I think his game will be back on track soon, along with the pens defense.

Funny, before the little 3 game stretch, Fleury's goals against average was around 2.42 and his save percentage bordering .920. And then as soon as there's a high-scoring stretch, there's the topic saying that he's a bust.

I don't think this thread is about him being a bust. It seems more like the OP is a concerned fantasy owner of MAF.

Like it was said earlier by ASV 27, all four goals last night were nothing you can blame the goalie for. But i do think Fleury, as well as his defense, has lost some of the sharpness they had earlier in the season. I think it might have to do with teams realizing that our young d-men can be pushed around.

Fleury not on the absolute top of his game

+

colossal defensive meltdown/scoring frenzy vs. the defending Cup champs/colossal defensive meltdown #2

=

stats blow up

Consider that 3 of those goals were SH breakaway/SH 2-on-1 and 1 was a ridiculous deflection lob, among a few other ones that were in no part MAF's fault, and it doesn't seem nearly so bad.

Sorry but I totally disagree. There's a number of goalies in the East alone Id much rather have on my roster then Fleury. I realize how far you guys went last year, but I dont credit Marc with that.

The Pens defense is going to be scary good when Gonch and Whitney get back.

Fleury is fine. He looks very composed out there and the goals that do get by are either really good shots or the defense left him out to dry. The occasional softy here and there will get by, but even the best goalies can't keep everything out.

He was awful in Detroit, and sub-par against the Oilers.

But last night, it was his defense leaving him out to dry.

He's in a bit of a funk-- so is Carey Price. They'll bounce back soon. That's the way young goalies are when they're that talented.
