Thompson Out Saturday; Fritz Sent down; Bergenheim In; Jackman called up (post #19)
5:15 pm - The Islanders have returned Mitch Fritz to Bridgeport after the enforcer played one shift last night in Atlanta. With Nate Thompson (groin strain) out and Sean Bergenheim in, expect the Islanders to recall a Sound Tiger on an emergency basis for their home game Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
greg logan also reported on his blog( to lazy to get the link) but josh bailey and sillinger have been cleared for full contact practices so they should be back soon...martinek is also close to a return
he also said that the extent of nate thompsons injury should be known tommorrow
I like Jackman as a player. I think he can be a solid full time 4th liner. He is a pretty good skater for a big man and has a halfway decent shot. I liked what I saw last year with the extended time he got. I think he will be great in this system as long as he stays in a 4th line role with at most 11 minutes.
won't be comeau - i think gordon wants him to "define himself" as a player in the AHL, learn the system, etc. a yo-yo call-up temporarily replacing an injured 4th liner while sillinger (and bailey) are close to returning makes no sense. Although Comeau's the best NYI not on the roster, he'll likely stay in the AHL for now.
jackman makes more sense, likely play 5-6minutes until sillinger is ready.
i'd like to see colliton since his role would be a 4th line checking centre, high-energy pk guy, he could replace thompson for good and play that role in the NHL. If he does well, he'll take Tambellini's roster spot if he continues to be ineffective in a scoring role.
bergie - weight - guerin
sim - nielsen - hunter
comrie - sillinger - okposo
hilbert - colliton - park
bailey getting colliton minutes for a few games before going back to junior....thompson either an extra fwd or sent down.
tamby may be doomed, one way contract or not. it'll likely just keep him from being claimed on waivers.
I4E11, I am now convinced the NYI read these boards!
Lol. It just makes sense. Fritz has been up for 4 games and has ATOI'd about 2:00 and gotten into 1 fight. He's been worthless. It would be stupid to keep him up here IMO.
My guess is Parky moves to center where he is more than capable of playing and they call up Comeau. If they do call up a center I'd guess either Colliton or Smith.
Notice though that Tambellini was not sent down, seems to me the urgency in his play that he has shown lately is getting noticed by the coaching staff. Either that or Fritz was just garbage and killed our ability to role four lines.

I believe Tambs is on a one-way contract. If they chose to send him down, he'd be subject to waivers and I'm guessing someone would take a flier on him in hopes of a change in scenery doing the trick like it has so many times before with our prospects.

True, but I guess they could still scratch him.
Regardless he's seemed to be be back in favor as he put back on what has become our second line with Neilsen and Hunter after a few games where he was shuffled around and playing with Comrie. Even if he's not scoring, he was playing a hard nosed game.

That's the key right there - he is skating without the puck rather than only when he has it, like last year. He has been hitting - sure he won't knock that many players down, but he can be a pest and create turnovers - but it is the effort away from the puck that is getting him back in good graces. If he could start finding the back of the net once in a while, he would get his confidence back. The kid has the skills, it has always been an issue of effort for him to succeed at the NHL level. In the AHL he could dominate because he was significantly more talented than most around him, at the NHL level he is middle of the road talent wise - if he can make up some with a higher level of intensity he will be able to contribute and be a regular. Of course this is just my opinion, and he might suck rocks even if he tries harder!
Chris Botta says it's Jackman, according to the blog.
Quote:
ETC: Tim Jackman was recalled today from Bridgeport on an emergency basis. Scott Gordon said at today’s morning skate that the team, when it has the opportunity, wants to reward the players down on the farm that work hard to learn the system and produce. Jackman has 6 goals in 12 games with the Sound Tigers…Joey MacDonald gets his fourth straight start in goal.
I was talking to Capuano at Botta's thing on Thursday night. I asked him which player on BPort would most help the current isles and his answer was Jackman.
He also said that Andy MacDonald (AMac) and Peter Mannino have been the two most under rated players on the team so far.
Fritz is the best thing to watch on this team and we sent him down before Godard shows up? How awesome it would be to show Godard fans what we now have, but I guess since this is the same team that got rid of Godard and countless other pugilists, we're not gonna keep Fritz either. Me thinks Wanger don't like fighting in hockey.
