10/11/08 "Bye Bye Birdie" - Thrashers VS. Panthers
Tonight, for the home opener of the 2008-2009 Panthers Season, your Florida Panthers take on the Atlanta Thrashers! Game time at 7:00 live from Bank Atlantic Center!
Vokoun allowed four goals on the first 13 shots he faced and gave up five goals in all, the last three of which were his fault. The sixth was an empty-netter. Still, there was optimism in the dressing room after the game.
"We're going to win a lot of games if we keep playing this way," said Horton, who scored with 8:29 left to pull the Panthers within a goal. "[DeBoer] rolls all four lines. That's good. It gets everybody in the game ... and you're well-rested when you get on the ice, that's for sure. It's definitely more fun for us. You create a lot of stuff off the forechecking."
Vokoun said he was impressed by the team's forechecking and the offense it helped produce. Said Booth: "We put a lot of pressure on them. We have a lot of positives to take from tonight."
Yeah there's no doubt. Vokoun lost the first 3 games last season, so the sooner we get 2 points the better and hopefully it will result in some consistency, we can't be losing 3,4,5 games in a row this season, it just can't happen. I remember Scotty Bowman (I think) sayin that a good team doesn't lose 3 games in a row, or maybe it was 2, regardless, I think you get the point...
Why does Vokoun always have a slow start? If it's known, why did he get so few preseason games, and why was our preseason schedule so strange - lots of games in a bunch early on, then nothing close to opening night.
Another thing (and a reason why Weiss does not get my C vote) - Weiss just can't score, open or covered or redirect. He's a good setup man, wish he would become Horton's Oates. He needs to have some shooting practice.
They were pretty fast last night, I think they're better conditioned than beginning of last season. I think we'll see a lot of effort tonight. Just hoping Vokoun doesn't keep Atlanta in the game...
Any word on if we see the same lines and if the same guys will be scratched? Obviously Welch won't be scratched, but I wouldn't mind seeing one of the kids get a shot tonight maybe in place of Peltonen.
With an injured McCabe, hopefully Welch makes the best of this opportunity and becomes solid. Definitely need to win tonight so we don't linger on two losses for the next four days.
Let's hope for some improvement on last nights play and with it hopefully a victory. Come on boys please win it for me. It's my birthday today.

I can undewrstand your case for Boynton even though I don't agree, but Ballard???? What did he do last night that was brutal?
As a unit they werent that good. Boynton made Ballard look bad. Sure Ballard brought the puck up the ice few times nicely but that overshadows how they did in there own end. Our hole team was very sluggish in there own end standing flat footed while Canes moved the puck around. If you didnt notice Ballard-Boynton compo was on the ice for atleast 3 of the goals Canes scored.
Anyways I really really hope we show up for 60 mins tonight.
Anyone know were to find the stats for puck possession for last nights game?
