RALEIGH, NC—Ron Francis, Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward Dan LaCouture to a one-year contract. The deal will pay LaCouture $475,000 on the NHL level or $50,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level, with a guarantee of at least $75,000 during the 2008-09 season.
“Dan came to our camp in great physical condition and earned himself a contract,” said Francis. “He is an experienced, veteran player with good speed and size and is capable of contributing on the NHL level.”
LaCouture, 31, has played in 326 career NHL games with Edmonton, Pittsburgh, the New York Rangers, Boston and New Jersey, totaling 18 goals and 25 assists (43 points) and 338 penalty minutes. The Hyannis, MA, native spent the 2007-08 season with HC Lugano of the Swiss League, earning two points (1g, 1a) in 15 games. He was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the 2nd round (29th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, and made his NHL debut with Edmonton during the 1998-99 season. LaCouture established NHL career highs in games played (82), goals (6), assists (11) and points (17) during the 2001-02 season with the Penguins
