Chances are, the duke won't play a regular season game for the Oilers. And it's a damn shame if he doesn't - one game, he's a fan favorite.
Thank you Florida for waiving this guy.
He should be in the lineup - to hell with Schremp, Brule... we need someone on the bench that will step over and put the fear of Allah into our opponents. If Regher thinks he'll hit Hemsky from behind again - he'll get a nice teeth punching from Steve MacIntyre:
If he never plays another game for the Edmonton Oilers - this thread is just to let him know - I'm sure David Staples will pick it up - we love what you did Steve MacIntyre.
Basically if the Oilers don't keep him around, let us as Oiler fans show him our appreciation, even if for one game.
His switch from left arm punching to right arm punching is flawless. I've watched this fight a few time, and still don't see his David Blaine style left to right illusion to punching with the right hand.
I think he's on the team, at least as the 13th forward right now.
He just has to make sure he's not a big liability defensively otherwise Mac T will ship him off quick.
Though with Souray, MacIntyre, Moreau, Stortini, Smid, Cole, maybe Strudwick, etc. in the lineup, I can say definitely for the first time since the 05-06 season that I don't worry about team toughness. That is a tough group of guys. Maybe it'll even rub off on Penner.
I'm not too worried about him being a liability.
I watched him every shift he was out there #25, and he was always in position and has an odd sense of speed for a man his size.
He seems like someone that understands the game. And he understood as people did in page 5 of the game thread that Vandermeer deserved a beating for tossing on Pouliot.
Let alone regular season if anyone hits Hemsky, Horcoff, Gagner, Cogliano or any of our fisticuff challenged stars.
If you listen to MacT's post game comments I don't think there's much doubt that Mac has a spot on this team.
I think in many ways the initial theory that Lowe and MacT had about an enforcer being unnecessary in today's game following the departure of Laraque had merit, however like many good theories time has proven it obsolete.
It's been awhile since I've seen an Oiler have a visibly intimidating presence on the other team and although in the immediate aftermath it may hurt the team with penalties to have a guy like mac around, the long term dividends will end up being priceless.
That's what happens when you have a tough guy who knows his role and isn't afraid of this instigator nonsense.
Amazing fight- MacIntyre is the real deal. Brilliant switch from left to the right hand and then the absolute backwards collapse by Vandermeer under the pressure. Beautiful.
If I am an Edmonton player that watched the crap that Pouliot suffered I am loving that fight. More importantly, I think it gives the message to the Flames and the rest of the league. This message speaks of accountability and repayment in turn.

Agreed 100%
It's about time we get somebody who can hand out serious beating with out having to ask their opponent politely!
I've been watching hockey for a long time, and I must say that MacIntyre's fight last night was the best beatdown delivered upon a Flames cheap shot artist since Dave Brown destroyed Jim Kyte about 20 years ago.
I wish our next game was a home game, so that the fans at Rexall would have the chance to clearly communicate to MacIntyre that he has become a celebrity overnight.
I agree with Raoul Duke with regards to MacIntyre's skating. He is much better than Boogaard or Laraque. This guy can play hockey if used properly. Dump the puck in, and come in hard on the forecheck. At 265lbs, Mac can be turned into a destructive hitter, and there is no shortage of Dmen in the Northwest Division that need to hear those steps coming up behind them.
Without a doubt MacIntyre fills a much needed role on this club and IMO there is plenty of room for both he and Storts. I'm tired of Hemsky getting run and no one having to answer for it.... and this changes things. This team toughness concept is not the answer when Souray and Moreau (even though broke the rule last night) have been given the red light on fighting.
Great audition by MacIntyre and he definitely earned a starting spot on this roster, IMO.
On a side note.... what ridiculous calls by the ref in that game. How on earth the Oil came out a man short after Vandermeer attacks Pouliot after he scored a goal and intigated that lopsided tilt is beyond me. Then the call on macIntyre when he simply stepped in to help Schremp was pitiful. Derek van Diest of the Sun said it best...
"Somehow despite the obvious cheap-shot, the pool of blood in the corner -- which inexcusably was left unattended while play restarted -- and the loss of a forward, the Oilers ended receiving a misconduct.
That did not sit well with Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish.
Shortly thereafter, he blew a gasket and was ejected when Steve MacIntyre was given a garbage roughing penalty coming to the aid of Rob Schremp, who fired the puck towards the Flames net after the whistle.
The Oilers new enforcer stepped in between to Flames who made their way towards Schremp after the play, then pinned both of them against the boards."
Loved him last night. I was in tears last night when 3 flamers were shoving Schremp, he comes in, pins all three together, and they just stop, it was great.
If this guy starts to hit, and isn't a defensive liability, I think he'd be the perfect addition to the Hockey club. I think if we can teach Stortini defence, I'm sure he'll pick it up aswell. I really don't like having an enforcer who only fights (Laraque), its a waste of a roster spot. If he can fight and provide some physcality, he'd be an ideal 3rd-4th line player.
I know alot of people say his skating was ok, really? I thought he was slow as anything last night.

That was funny. I would be intimated by that dude too. He is a monster.
I was surprised for a guy that size / weight that his skating was pretty decent. It is not great but since he had not played any NHL games so far. I was expecting his skating to horrendous and it was not at all IMO.
I liked what I seen. He can rotate in and out of the press box. Also if it makes Hemmer and the kids more confident out on the ice. Then I am all for it.
Penner Started the fight then landed some good punches. Thats why Moreau and Roy got to go again because penner had taken down Prust and the refs skated over but they got back up and Prust just tried to tie him up and hold on. Then the cameras go to them and it looks like a dull fight.
The way he destroyed Vandermeer was impressive and I was really happy to see it. I'm turned around on this guy, he can barely play, but if he can do that alot, keep him and put the fear of "science" into opposing teams.

It could be a real long year for Mr. Regehr.
Word. Well said.
Theres no doubt that the fight last night was a shot across the bow and that "have fists will travel" got everybody on the Flames teams attention.
After the absolute beat down on Vandermeer it was one of those look down moments realizing the arch enemy has majorly increased detente arsenal.
I'd even compare it to Larry Robinson annihilating Gary Dornhoeffer with a hit so hard he broke the boards.
Won the habs a Stanley Cup right there and the bad boys were looking over their shoulders the rest of the way.
People should never underestimate the importance of having the biggest gun riding saddle.
