JT for me. A better comparison for Hall would be Stamkos I think.
And didn't more GM's say they'd take Stamkos over Tavares

It's really interesting actually. I mean I've watched both of these guys a ton over the last four seasons, and Stamkos is obviously more explosive, but Tavares just has a better ability to produce offensively.
john tavares and steven stamkos a nowhere close to sidney crosby..
so far taylor hall is nowhere close to tavares and stamkos. He's a very good young player who should perform even better now that he's more comfortable in the OHL. HOwever at a younger age than him fifteen/sixteen year old john tavares was competing for the title of absolute best junior hockey player in north america.
Right now taylor is looking like something special but there's no realsignificant gap btw him and the rest of the pack. Who knows what this year might bring?
Kinda makes you think about what it takes to truly be a superstar?
I know everyone throws that title at guys like hedman/tavares/stamkos but in all honesty, compare them to guys like crosby, ovechkin/malkin (at the same age?)
nowhere close.
Yet compared to their peers or even people a few years older and they're quite exceptional.
Guys like taylor hall and brayden schenn still have a ways to go to compete with the exceptionals (much less the superstars)
I'm not entirely sold on Tavares. He provides a offence, but I've found that he isn't the most exciting player to watch. So, I'm not sure if Hall will reach Tavares' offensive exploits, but I feel he'll be a more exciting player to watch. And hell, this time last year I had Doughty ahead of Stamkos; and by draft day, as was said earlier, alot of scouts had Stamkos ahead of Tavares; so anything can happen. That being said; I highly doubt Tavares will have a Kessel-like drop.

How does excitement correlate in any way to a player's talent?
See this is what I hate about Tavares bashers, this kid takes so much flak because people just expect to see him skate coast to coast and score hi-lite reel goals. Now Tavares does have some rushes like that, but mostly its just being in the right place. Don't get me wrong this guy has some of the best hands you will find on any hockey player in the world right now, but Tavares always seems to pop up when you don't expect him to.
It isn't really fair when comparing these two players when both play such different games. They both have a knack for finding the net but there isn't really to many similarities to their games after that. As a previous poster said I think the comparison of Stamkos vs Hall would be a better comparison to make in a few years

Add McFarland to that debate. He isn't at Stamkos' talent level, but they are very similar players, especially in terms of skating. Their strides are almost identical.
But yes as you said, Tavares is a completely different type of player.

I'm not meaning to bash Tavares. In fact, I didn't mean for the first sentence to actually work so well with the rest of the paragraph. Who knows, Tavares could very well break Gretzky's records at the NHL level too...
My point is, based on personal taste, that I'd much rather watch Alexander Ovechkin than Phil Esposito; both exceptional players in their own rights, just Ovie is a little more fun to watch.
My OTHER point was, that right now, I think Tavares goes #2 behind Hedman; but ANYTHING can happen. I think that if the unlikelihood that Tavares drops AT ALL occurs, he will not fall very far. Hence the Kessel-like drop not occuring. I mean, half (if not more) of the people on here have him ranked #1 right now. Are they wrong? No. There is no wrong answer (unless you have Taylor Hall going 1st in this draft, which for obvious reasons, is wrong) at this point in time. It's a crapshoot like any other year. Look at the threads after the '05 draft...Kessel vs. Crosby! ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. I'm just don't have that great of a feeling about him. Nothing I can disprove, its just my gut.

anyone else realize that Tavares and Hall are 1-2 in OHL scoring? Ironic eh? Tavares has 9 points (5-4) in 3 games. I dont know about anyone else, but I would lose sleep if I passed up on Tavares.
