With their 1st round selection in 2009 the Maple Leafs select........Brayden Schenn

Brayden Schenn was selected yesterday as one of the alternate captains for the under 18 team.

http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.cfm...r_id/56230.htm

He also led all rookies in scoring in the WHL last season with 71 points in 66 games.

How sweet would it be to have the brother combination of Luke and Brayden lead the Leafs over the next decade.

I think MLSE would love that from a marketing perspective. The fans would love it because we'd have a huge shutdown D-man, and high scoring forward.

Doubt we're in the bottom 2, personally I doubt we are a lottery team. (I have high hopes for Wilson, hopefully we don't have enough scoring though)

I'd be happy with any one of Tavares, Hedman, Svensson-Pajaarvi or Schenn.

And what if Schenn has a better year in 08-09 than Hedman or Tavares?

no way we draft Svensson-Pajaarvi. The profit margin on jerseys would be far too small.

Even then it's doubtful. Schenn imo would have to score like 60 goals or more than 130 points for that to even be a possibility.

It is possible that Schenn may have a better year than one of them. It is also highly unlikely. Even if he does have a better year than one of them, Tavares is a lock for top two (he broke GRETZKY'S RECORDS for petes sake) and Hedman is a combo of pronger and lidstrom...in a league where d-men are desperately needed. If schenn somehow has a better year then one of them, barring a 300 goal season, or a career ending injury to JT or hedman, schenn will still go as high as third.

haha, thanks MSP for already making my point.

Agreed but this assumes the Leafs get 1st or 2nd pick. Kings and Islanders will battle for those two spots with the Leafs getting 3rd or worse. I see them taking Schenn. Or even trading up to take him like they did this year.

True, but the title of this thread is "with the first overall pick..." meaning we have the first overall pick... but at three id say the leafs would probably take schenn

I thought Schenn was supposed to be a top pick?

I truly believe MLSE has had their eyes set on tavares since trying to bring him up with the Marlies. He's a potential Generational talent who also happens to be a leaf fan and from the GTA. This is the definition of homegrown talent. Since all MLSE knows and cares about is $$$ I believe they will do everything in their power to legally land that pick. Or they could settle for the next best thing MSP.

I still think we're going to see Luke call his brothers name at next years draft.
