Knuble to Columbus

Rumor has Knuble going to Columbus for Jan Hejda and a fourth. I don't completely understand this rumor seeing as Knuble makes 2.8 million and Hejda makes 2 so there no great cap relief for Philly. Seeing as Philly is 3.8 million over the cap they will have to dump some big salary somewhere.

Looks like Philly prefers defense to forwards....can't say I blame them.

This might be done to clear a roster spot for Giroux. Good deal for Philly if it gets done.

Hatcher will start the year on LTIR, no cap issues.

There is already a spot for Giroux on the team.

I heard it on Sportsnet from Nick Kypreos. Who says that Hatcher starts on LTIR , I heard he wants to play out the season.

A quick Jackets fan perspective: I really really hope this is somebody's idea of a joke. No, I wouldn't mind Knuble, but Hejda was easily our best defensive defenseman ever, set the franchise record for season plus/minus, was just signed to a very good contract considering all that, and is subsequently kind of seen as part of the core of our D for next year.

There's any number of folks I'd consider trading for Knuble if he was available - some of whom might arguably be more valuable - but Hejda isn't one of them.

Post a link of that rumor.
its Knuble for Hejda+4th, so its not a salary dump.

how many defensemen do we need? i've heard about depth, but unless a freak zamboni accident injures our entire starting defense corps, do we really need this much?

I'd rather have Hejda, personally.

Kypreos is slightly less accurate than Eklund.

Jan Hejda is a better player than Mike Knuble though I'll take Mike on the Sens.

He could play with Spezza and Heater.

Stupid deal for Philly, the last thing we need is another 3rd pairing defenseman. I only get it if we're going to flip Hejda or another one of those guys (Jones maybe) in another trade.

Based on what, keeping Hejda or losing Hejda?

Just because you don't know who Jan Hejda is, it doesn't mean he's a 3rd pairing defenceman.

Hejda isn't a third pairing defenseman. He's a solid second pairing guy who can play big minutes.

I don't see why Columbus would do this, considering Knuble and Hejda are close enough by themselves, but throwing in the pick throws it off in Philadelphia's favour.

I know who Hejda is thanks and at this point I don't feel like he's more than a border line 3rd pairing dman.

Oh, I see. Then the problem isn't that you don't know about Hejda, it's that you don't know about hockey. Hejda could play on a lot of top pairings in the league, and wouldn't play below the 2nd pair on any team that I can think of off the top of my head.

And you would be wrong. Just my opinion but any guy who was double digits + on the CBJ last year is more than a third pair defenseman.

They have the AHL Phantoms, and a vault of cash to afford to dump players there if need be.

Problem solved.

Epecially when he got the task of playing against the other team's top lines every single night.
