I believe you have to add a good Newfoundlander to this list in Travis Randell. He is solid two way player and has the maturity to continue to the next level.

Looking at your list. I'm curious about your opinion on a few players. Players like Charles-Olivier Roussel, Gabriel Dumont and Gleason Fournier seem low while Benjamin Casavant (despite his skating) and Nicolas Deslauriers seem high to me. I don't want to criticize your list but I would like to know what are the flaws you see in the three first and the qualities in the last two?
Also, I am intrigue with the goalie Karel St-Laurent (his size, athleticism and the stats he had in midget this year). What everyone think about his future in the league?

Roussel and Fournier are too soft and have no hockey sense. Thats my opinion. Look at Alex Neron, so much talent, but the guy has no clue how to play defense. Same thing with Roussel and Fournier. They look good on the ice, they are great skaters, they move the puck, but they play scared, they are timid in front of their own net. They arent NHL style defenders. Dumont, if he does get picked, wont be until late. Hes too small and not enough skilled for being small.

While its true Casavant isnt a great skater, he isnt completely horrible either. He is a power forward who could develop into a Q superstar. He has also improved his skating immensely since he was 15.

Deslauriers is underrated. His skating is exceptional, he can play on both sides of the puck and he is surprisingly physical. He will play in the Huskies top 4 as a 17 year old and could surprise some people around the league.

St-Laurent...he will have to be traded if he is to play in the Q. Saint John has too many goalies.

We'll need 3 goalies when Mayer goes off to Division 1, so we may carry three in the first half, only split the games played by the backup...Amyot and Passy/St-Laurent could be a decent package...

I really think Brown's stock could rise this season. He earned his way into the ice time he got. Played on the PK as a 16 YO and did a good job. Plays well at both ends of the ice and has some decent speed and hands. He played very well down the stretch last season and I think he should be able to make himself get noticed a little more. I will be honest at the draft 2 years ago I was more excited to see MacAusland than Brown but as the year went on Brown got my attention. I think MAcAusland will do fine but I really think Brown was the best of the two so far. IMO.

I would like to say first i deeply appreciate LaLaLaprise posts and ranking. He knows his stuff and he has great product at HPO.

The 2009 nhl draft will be very interesting for lhjmq. Without being a record year, many talented prospects from the Q will showcase their talent in the league Canadian and even, for some, with Team Canada U-18

1.Olivier Roy

It begins with Olivier Roy, goalkeeper not related with Patrick Roy.
Should be the first goalie drafted in 2009 , very good athetism.Good glove, moves well and has good confidence in his skills.

2.Hubert Labrie
Nobody has been able to increase his rank as Labrie did it. Hubert is an intelligent and courageous defense-man. Talented, he will probably be the most complete D in the lhjmq. His offensive potential could blossom quickly.

3.Mikael Tam
Mikael Tam is a combative and energetic D-man. He excels in the defensive play and intimidates opponents with his strength. Tam is a young D-man with great potential.

4.Simon Desprès
Despres, 1st overall pick in 2007 has much to give, good size, has a good vision and solid in his zone. If he gains some consistency, he will be a good d-man in the nhl.

5.Gabriel Dumont
Gabriel is very undervalued.Few people have seen him play and sometimes he can be overlooked because of average statistics.
Dumont is very talented offensively, he was the best scorer in the midget aaa. He's a winner. He is not afraid to play hard and physical despite his modest frame. His intensity and his passion on the ice set him apart.

6.Jordan Caron
Caron is a great young man with skillful hands.Good skater, he is able to play well both ways of the rink. Despite his abilities, Caron stalled. I think the main reason is injuries and he will have a good season and climb in the rankings during the season.

7.Steven Anthony

Steven Anthony has a good size, very good hands and a terrific vision. However, he only relies on his talents. I've heard 'lazy tag' more than once. He'll have to prove a lot but he has all the tools to do so.

8.Philippe Lefebvre

A native of Trois-Rivieres, Lefebvre is a mature player and very spectacular. He's a good skater and loves dekes d-man.His dekes are exciting to see.He has good hands to finish too. He must improve his consistency and polish his game overall.

9.David Gilbert

David is a dynamic offensive player. His hands and his shot make him a dangerous player around the net. He must gain some pounds to increase its effectiveness.

10.Philippe Paradis
Philippe is a player to watch. He has many assets. He distinguishes himself by his offensive abilities and his grit.

11.Eric Gelinas

Eric Gelinas is a well-rounded d-man. He is effective in his zone and can unload a high velocity shot.

12.Devon MacAusland

Devon is a spectacular player. Small and frail, he has incredible vision. His offensive skills are very impressive but displays unconsistency. He remains an explosive player to watch.

13.Frederick Roy

Few player has the heart of Frederick Roy.This player is very talented and has a strong defensive game. He never gives up, even in a losing cause, Roy will bring is A++ game and encourages his teammates to work harder. His attitude and his two-way game will help him to climb slowly but surely professional hockey.

14.Charles-Olivier Roussel

Roussel is an outstanding offensive d-man.He controls the puck very well and distributes it with poise.Roussel can shot the puck hard. Charles-Olivier is not afraid to play mean and performs very well in the playoffs.

15.Benjamin Casavant

Benjamin protects the puck with ease. He is physical and likes to go in front of the net. His hands are soft. With work on his skating , anything is possible.

16.Brandon MacLean

Brandon has tremendous hands. Very crafty, he has a great wrist shot. Brandon plays with grit and like to hit. A player to keep an eye on.

17.Matt Brown

Matt is a heart and soul player. He works hard and competes. Brings is A++ game every night. A clutch player.

18.Gleason Fournier

Gleason is a skillful complete d-man.He excels in all facets of the game thanks to his exceptional hockey sense. Fournier is a mature guy with a bright future.

19.Etienne Brodeur

Ignored last year at the Q draft, Brodeur has not waited this year. Like Nicolas Deschamps, he'll have ice time to prove he's the real deal. Brodeur is an offensive player with a positive attitude. His combativeness and his mean streak will sure help him.

20.Brad Yetman

Under-rated d-man. He's good with the puck and get the job done in his zone. Not flashy but steady and useful to his team.

Honourable Mentions:
Ryan Kavanagh (Explosive small offensive d-man)
Travis Randell (Under-rated, good upside)
Gabriel Bourque ( Best rookie in terms of hits with 141.)
Mathieu Gingras (midget AAA star , talented with the puck)
Dave Leclerc (Tremendous talent on the power-play)
Sebastien Trudeau ( Great stick-handler with poise)
Olivier Hinse (Good upside, great hands)
Phillipe Fontaine ( A guy to keep an eye on!)
Raphael Pouliot ( Useful to his team)
Maxime Charette ( One of the best forward during Kiwanis tourney)
Richard Greer (very under-rated)

European coming over :
Dmitry Kulikov ( Similar to Vyacheslav Vojnov)
Alexander Fomin (Best Belarussian since Kostitsyn brothers.)
Andrej Nestrasil
Filip Janosik
Michal Hlinka
Yevgeny Molotilov
Radovan Pulis
Dominik Schlumpf
Mitch Morgan
Jonathan Saaf

Outside québec
Louis Leblanc (USHL)
Alex Chiasson (prep-school)

Undrafted guys to watch closely
Alex Beaton
Mathieu Tousignant
Robert Mayer
Dave Labrecque
Jonathan Bonneau
Alexandre Néron
Tommy Tremblay
Travis Stacey
Ashton Bernard

Anthony had to work for every inch last year...there was nothing lazy about him, as taking a shift off would have made a healthy scratch for a week.

I had Labrecque in my Q top 20 last year. Here's what i wrote about him :

20.Dave Labrecque

A dark horse, superstar in midget AAA. Tremendous playmaking abilities. Sees the ice like no other.
Great shot, good skating and deking abilities.
He's made out of glass. Cannot take a hit. Very soft along the boards

Wow, can't believe you wrote that. He's still the 2nd youngest player in the team this year, and is rank among the top 5 for his hockey sense.

He is soft as butter. I dont care how young he is. He is SOFTTTTT!!

He isnt even the best 17 year old defensemen on his own team.

I think he was drafted that high just because he is a local kid. There were better def available in 2007. But I remember he was hyped a lot before the draft, did he derserve that hype?

First-year eligibles from the Juniors:

November 90 Alex Wall (D)
March 91 Samuel Fortier (RW)
March 91 Colin MacKinnon (LW)
April 91 Pier-Antoine Dion (LW/C)
July 91 Jean-Francois Berube (G)

Alex Wall is playing out of his mind and if he keeps up the pace, should be drafted in the 2nd round. He is a tremendous skater, with good hockey sense. He sees the ice well, makes a good breakout pass and plays PP and PK.

Fortier and MacKinnon are 4th liners, with limited offensive potential. Could be 7th rounders if some NHL team see something in them.

Dion I'm not sure will be drafted, it will depend on what kind of season he is having. So far he's played well but his ice time has decreased with Fillier, Adam and now Esposito coming back. He was on the 1st line to start the year and got some points. He can play on both end of the ice, skates well, is a very smart player and doesn't mind playing dirty as well. Could be a 5th-6th rounder with a solid offensive year.

Berube is the backup, made the team as a walk-on tryout. Played surprisginly well while Allen was away, but you can see he's still very green. He's calm under pressure and makes key saves when needed. Has a nice butterfly style and is quick in his crease. Can't see him getting drafted based on the games he has played so far, only chance he has is if Allen gets injured because otherwise Berube wont get much playing time. Which is too bad because he seems to have solid potential.
