I really like the new Kings 3rd jerseys and agree that the minimalist approach works great. If I were a Kings fan I'd definitely buy one. I don't mind the Canucks new 3rds - though would rather have seen them not tweak the stick/rink logo. And the shoulder patch, as I've mentioned elsewhere resembles the Vachon logo too much.
I also like the new Blues jersey.
Hate the new Sens and Bolts jersey. I don't like how they use the slang or shortened variation of their team name. Tacky.
I know they catch alot of heat around here, but the new Thrashers 3rds look terrific in person...not on a hockey player but on fans wearing them around the arena. It might be a better look off the ice than on the ice.
Well...heres my take now that we have seen them....
The Bolts jersey would be great if it was a different font.
The Phoenix jersey would be nice if they didnt wear red pants with them.
The Logo on the LA jersey doesnt do it for me. Otherwise nice.
The St Louis jersey is very meh for me. Way too Minnesota.
Dont like Carolinas at all.
San Joses has too much black. Not enough colour.
Atlantas....ugh. Would hate to own one that isnt customized.
Ive already said my piece on the Sens jersey.
All the retro jerseys are nice, but kinda boring for a third. That should be their main jerseys. The 3rd is for something different IMO. I like when teams take a risk with them instead of just rehashing an old jersey. We have the NHL Vintage line for that. I still like seeing them on the ice though. NHL fans are so terrified of change. Everyones favourites are jerseys that have been around for years. Pretty boring.
Everyone else is pretty meh for me. I do really like Boston though.
A few teams should definitely adopt their new thirds full-time. Those teams?
Oilers, Islanders, Flyers (the name plate the style...nice, convert!!) Canucks (the new third should be the home, the away one should remain the same but with Johnny Canuck and no Dorca) and Sabres (especially the old logo). Tampa's are nice as well, instead of going all black they used a nice blue and kept the under arm stripes and Chicago re-introducing the black ones they used to wear as thirds, nice touch as well. The kings...oh the raiders colours, I love those. I had a Kings jersey that I used to wear for shinny because It was black and I didn't care to get it dirty but I still liked that jersey, for as plain as it was, it was also great. Habs white vintage that they have worn before, I like those, I've always wanted to get a Roy one in those and I think I might soon enough.
Fail (imo and my opinion means mine so grow a sack):
Sens - logo too high, way too much red, totally ignoring the other colour they have in their logo. Canes - should have went all gray with red and black accents, all black? *yawn* Sharks - they had a beautiful teal when they first entered the league, then they dulled it down and started to look boring while still playing great hockey. Blues - dark blue? what is this the NBA where all the teams transfer to the same blue? They hada beautiful blue in the 60's, their original colours...go back to them with the new third and it's perfect. Thrashers - they took the baby blue as their new home jerseys and came out with this boring maroon one, not needed at all. At least go with maroon pants or something, just not a pleasing jersey to look at. Dallas - for every team that has another # on the front, that's just soo ugly to look at and the collegiate style ones the stars wear are hardly ones to even notice or care about. Bland, way to bland. Bruins - I don't mind their new thirds, I just wish they went old school and used the brown/yellow combo. So what, call me a traditionalist, I'd soo get a Neely & Orr one in those old school ones if they did. Coyotes - They have some sweet regular duds, but going black for the 3rd? Terrible. They should have tried the sand/maroon/white combo with the sand being the dominant colour. It would be different but it would be more Phoenix than black.
The rest of the teams that don't have a third...they should wear a vintage one, that'd be great for the NHL and for merchandise sales. The teams that went retro, no one can even say they are ugly, all the teams that went retro are win, beautiful..beautiful win. I have this feeling now that the teams that have navy blue will make a third with them. Making it even worse, I hope the Caps don't do it, they finally got nice jerseys again and to ruin it with a dark blue jersey would be just horrible.
That's my opinions on the jerseys. Sure I don't like them all but there are more than a few I do like that look like the team put some thought into it.
