The Helm Sports Lounge

I hope this makes everyone happy.

But anyway, he had almost 10 minutes today and has been playing REALLY well.

Mikey Redmond said that he is a great player to watch and a great asset to the team.

So, how do they make their crow around the world?

He's been solid and he's fast as all get out.
I'm all for keeping Malts on the bench and letting Helm keep playing.

Why? No reason to sit Samuelsson.

Not to derail the thread, Helm has been awesome.

I, for one, appreciate Mr. Darren Helm.

I think Maltby being healthy does raise a bit of a conundrum for the Wings... the current lineup has been playing great as a team, do you really want to shake that up?

Helm

Give Maltby plenty of time to heal and don't rush him back the first instant he can conceivably be in the lineup. Maybe an injury crops up by then, or McCarty hits the wall, or whatever. Play it by ear.

i don't see a reason to change the lineup. helm plays good enough to stay. his speed is amazing. give his as much ice-time as possible and i hope he can be a PKer soon. i wonder how his finishing abilities are since with his speed he might get a lot of breakaways.

ok Ti-Girl... there it is. I wasn't here when the Helm discussions began, but since I have been on the forums you have been the #1 touter of Helm... no one has scouted his talent better than you.

Onwards, he is a great talent, looks a lot like a young Draper to me, and your crush on his "retarded puppy" looks always make for great posts.

Lets see:

Good Wheels: Check

Finishes checks: Check

Can put up points: Check (one + rookie in the playoffs = just fine)

I definitely see Detroit giving Helm a spot next year, Abdelkader a spot the following year and then detroit's got one hell of a nasty Duo for years.

Go Helmer!

Holy ****. I know hes a rookie and those are juniors, but if he uses those kinds of hands and moves, we could very well be seeing a cleary + in the making!

I would really like to point out that I don't have a crush on Darren. We have a very platonic relationship, but he is my boy.

Anyway, I dug up a post I did in 05 about Helm and what I thought of him back then.

Quote:

Darren Helm - Right Wing/Centre

Date of Birth: January 21, 1987
Hockey Age: 17
Hometown: St. Andrews, MB
Height: 6’ 0"
Weight: 170 lbs
NHL Status: Eligible 2005 Entry Draft

GP G A TP AP\PG PM PPG PPA SH +\-
62 8 12 20 0.32 21 0 0 0 5

Darren is a hard working grinder type of player that never gives up. He has the hands to score and to pass, but also will spend a lot of time in the other opposition's end cycling the puck. He also isn't scared to drop the mitts, rackign up a few fights this season. Darren is a rookie, but is playing on the 2nd line some games with Roman and Brett or with Kevin Undershute and Devyn Tremblay. Plays like a mixture of Kris Draper and Joe Sakic. Very likely to get drafted in the later rounds...5th on.
Yes. That was in 05. I was pretty much bang on. It was written up BEFORE his 79 point breakout the following year.

I pretty much win at life.

And yes, I realise that my posts about him make for great follow up posts, but I don't mind.

Is that the Joe Sakic of this series? Because, if that's the case, I don't want him.

I think I was saying more about his wrist shot, but who knows, it was three years ago. I was young and impressionable.

Been very happy with McCarty's play, but there are moments he looks absolutely gassed out there, even in his limited minutes. I meant hitting the wall as in his conditioning. It is a possibility.

Enjoyed Helm's play very much today. Just another reason why I believe this team can take us all the way.
