Weber took a hit into the end boards in the 2nd, and didn't play much the rest of the game. He was out for an odd shift or two, but with the score the way it was, I'm guessing it was more a case of keeping him safe (the way the Whalers were running around in the 3rd).
Sladok's goonery should get him a vacation for bullying. Giving him an instigator would have hinted that Kadri was even an unwilling participant. I highly doubt that Mr. Branch has the body parts necessary to suspend him, but we'll see.

You should always expect the worst when you hang 9 on someone in a playoff game. You can't embarass a team and just expect them to lay down.
you shouldn't resort to cheap shots at any point in the game regardless of the score. pick a fight with someone that is willing or maybe make sure that the score doesn't get that bad in the first place.
Kitchener Rangers coach Peter DeBoer was ticked after last night's 9-2 playoff-opening win over the Plymouth Whalers before 6,132 at the Aud.
Of course, it wasn't the score.
Nick Spaling's hat trick didn't agitate DeBoer. Nor did Matt Halischuk's five points, including two goals.
A little goonery got to DeBoer.
Late in the game, 6-foot-4 Ontario Hockey League penalty-minute king Jozef Sladok of Plymouth jumped slick Rangers centre Nazem Kadri from behind and flailed away.
That's 223 penalty minutes piling on to 57 minutes in the box. That's no goals pounding 25 goals.
"He (Sladok) pretty much Todd Bertuzzi'd him from behind with less than (four) minutes left in the game and gets a two-minute minor," DeBoer said. "How that isn't a bullying penalty, I have no idea."
Sladok got two for roughing and a meaningless 10-minute misconduct.
The Whalers, who host Game 2 in the best-of-seven first-round series tonight at 7 at Michigan's Compuware Sports Arena, saw it differently.
"Well, Kadri slashed him and speared him," Plymouth coach Greg Stefan said., I saw the slash but not the spear
"Sladok usually doesn't do much. He'll fight anybody. He's not a dirty player. But if someone sticks him, he'll go after him."
Kadri had his own version of events. He said Sladok ran Kitchener's Justin Azevedo earlier in the shift and targeted him as well when he was nowhere near the puck.
"So I just game him a little cross-check and he jumped me. I didn't really expect him to do that. I was kind of surprised."
"I got two-punched," Kadri added. "A little headache, but nothing too big."
Stefan didn't feel sorry for Kadri.
"Kadri is a good hockey player," Stefan said. "But if he's going to stick guys, he's got to be responsible for his actions. I don't have a problem with that at all. And if he does it again, he'll get more of it."
A Little Something for the record, after last night

Actually the game could've have been easily 15-2 if the Rangers never took their foot off the throttle. The players never showboated or rubbed in the score at all.
If the Plymouth players were to be upset, it should be at themselves for playing like crap!
You're right, you should always expect the worst when you play a team that thrives on goon culture to win them games.
if your referring to the whalers being a goon team, your wrong, they do play real physical hockey leading up to the mem cup last season, hockey is meant to be rough....
i havent seen the incident but if Kadri speared and slashed him a spear almost warrants an automatic suspension so maybe the ref saw it let it slide.....regardless if a guy is unwilling to fight the bullying penalty SHOULD apply, some guys simply can't fight in this league and shouldnt be forced into it...
i must saw if Kitchener didnt showboat or anything then i'm fine with the score....being a gens fan the one thing i cant stand is when we've been up big on a team and a guy like dale mitchell scores and showboats it, when you score you should act like youve done it 1000 times before.
Lol, hell the Rangers went 5/10 on the PP. You guys shouldn't be complaining, you got your way against Guelph a few weeks ago, the whole 2 minute 5 on 3. DeBoer will be complaining and the Rangers will get their way once again. They're just like the Leafs.

I love tough, hard hitting hockey. Last night was goonery plain and simple. Sladok had already had a shift where he was headhunting right before this shift. This is not the same Plymouth team as last year (although they had more than their share of dirty players last year, they were also skilled dirty players).
Sladok and Kadri slashed each other right before this incident, and that followed Sladok aiming for Azavedo's head. I didn't see a spear (not that it didn't happen - if it did, I didn't see it). There is no excuse for Sladok's behaviour - he jumped Kadri and started throwing punches before Kadri even knew what was happening.
The only showboating I saw was early in the game by Weber - he was on the receiving end of a head check, and then scored on the PP. He motioned to the Plymouth bench then. And I'd have done the same. That was it though.
Game 2 is tonight. If Sladok is dressed, I'll be pissed. Although he is good for a couple of PP's for stupid moves.

And Guelph got away with a 2 minute vs 4 minute high sticking on Aliu last night. Your point is.... ??
What the ****? No goons in Plymouth...none at all.
Deboer had a great quote in the postgame interview:
Quote:
"It's like groundhog day, every time the Whalers are losing, Sladok comes over the boards with 2 minutes left to goon it up".
A high crosscheck, then he drops the gloves and starts pounding on Tregunna (I think); at the same time, somebody else grabbed Anderson.
This all occurred after Mascioli scored and was punched in the face as he came around the net. Mascioli got his chance though... they dropped the gloves after the faceoff and I think whoever it was underestimated Mascioli.
