Official 2009 NHL Draft Discussion

I thought we could dedicate a discussion to one of the most exciting drafts in recent NHL history as frontiered by John Tavares and Victor Hedman.

May I start by posting a possible top 30?

Thank you

Looks great to say the least. Hopefully the Leafs get another 09 pick for next year.

WOW!

Finnerican has Tavares over Hedman. The same John Tavares that has been dissapointing this season and is an awful skater.

I thought Hedman was gonna be a way better version of Pronger?

Louis leblanc will played in omaha (ushl) next year not salisbury prep...right now he's breaking all kind of goal scoring records with his midjet team in montreal...pretty good chance to see him in the telus cup later this year

Stefan Novotny has left SSM and joined Indiana of the USHL.

Schroeder outside the top 5!
Kuchin outside the top 10!

Shows how great this draft will be.

It's way too top heavy.. I think the top 20 could really really change alot because all of those players are REALLY good.

Not hearing a lot of love for Nazem Kadri! Kitchener's second line centre and arguably premiere young playmaker is having a great season. I'd be surprised if he wasn't top thirty next year.

Starting to hear a lot about the Panik boy, recently... anyone that has seen him play that can describe his game a bit, being he's from across the pond?

Also, some people have been saying for a long while now some things to the effect of "it's much too early to be talking about this draft".
However, I think the closer it's getting, the MORE potential impact players that keep rising into the picture... this is gonna be a good one; I don't think that a lot of these boys will be slowing down any time soon.

Umm.. He was probably one of if not the youngest kid in the tournament. That and every player in the history of hockey has made mistake on the ice. But, I hope you are right. I'd love for the Isles to be able to draft him if he drops due to one bad play a year and a half before the draft.

IMO, Despres should be above Anthony right now...and I can't see Leblanc even sniffing the first round right now given that he hasn't even played above midget yet.

well everyone makes mistakes.. just at a time like that and after what backlund said "we want canada in the finals so we can beat them again" bad time to make the mistake. me personally i hate it when the Defence rim it, its sometimes the safest play but if its like 3 ft off the ice and the forward has to stop it and control it witha forechecker on him it turns into not the smartest play. im not bashing hedman. hes a good defencemen at a young age, but he could of made a simpler play at the time, but if it was him and to make a play like that in the most crucial time of the game teams will take notice of that. and also the canadians were doinga hell of a job pressuring them so cant blame it all on hedman haha it should of been an easy save for the tendy. if you look at the replay theres 4 swedes and 2 canadians around the net and still goes in..

Hmm, you forgot the fact he was rocked by Mamin is semis. That must drop Hedman out of TOP 10.

Really, evryone makes mistakes, Tavares too. Hedman wasn't selected to all-star team just because of his height. Actually he was almost perferct defensivly during the tournament, being the youngest defenseman at WJC(amongst contender teams). Yeah in finals he had a bad game, just to remember, Malkin was invisible in 2 straight finals, Ovechkin and Backstrom had very bad last games at WJC too. So what?

yeah i know.. but the round robin games dont matter as much as big pressure situation games. scouts pay closer attention to bigger games. when the game is on the line and high pressure sitautions. to see how aplayer can react. if i a player can domiante a regular game but choke when the time comes would you take a chance on him? im not saying hedman choked by any means.

These are both great top 30 lists. There are too many good player for 2009 to include them all. Intresting to see Mike Lee in Finnamerican lists. He's been creating a lot of buzz lately. I couple of players I like Joonas Nattinen,Nico Manelius,Dmitry Orlov,Joni Ortio,Sam Calebrese, and Devon MacAusland.
