I'm pretty suprised that Tom Cruise wasn't nominated for Best Actor. The way a lot of the media was saying things, it seemed Cruise was actually a frontrunner for the award and now he isn't even nominated. Oh well, that's the media for you.

Regardless, I thought he did an outstanding job in the movie, although I don't think he should have won, I think he deserved a nomination.

Never saw the movie of the other Best Male Actor nominees but I thought Depp singlehandedly made Pirates of the Caribbean a fun movie to watch.

I'm surprised by Depp's nomination, h was great but I jsut didn't think he'd get a nomination. I'm also surprised by the amount of nominations for Master and Commander. I thought Cold Mountain was a lock for a best picture nomination, I guess I was wrong...

I'm gonna be rooting for Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson, and BILL MURRAY!!! He betetr win, it would be so awesome for him to get an Oscar.

As sure as Theron will win best actress, Renee Zellweger will win best supporting actress, just like in the Golden Globe awards.

Master & Commander over 21 Grams and In America for a best picture nomination?

Gimme a break.

I feel bad for Naomi Watts...she really deserves this but is going to get overrun by the Charlize Theron train. Hollywood loves it when a super hot woman makes herself look sorta ugly to play a part. I haven't seen Monster, maybe she's terrific, but Watts OWNS in 21 Grams, maybe even more than she does in Mulholland Drive.

Penn vs. Murray for Best Actor should be interesting...I doubt very much that Kingsley, Law or Depp scores it. Both won Globes for Best Actor, the Academy doesn't like Penn's anti-war stuff but also has shafted Murray before (Rushmore, anyone?) so who knows.

I'd put all the money I could afford on LOTR winning Best Picture...more of an overall achievement award but in weak competition they'll take it. Truth be told, I thought it was the weakest of the three and I liked Mystic River far more.

A lot of people are gona say Charlize's nom and possible win is just for the fact that she uggified herself.

but, If you see the movie, and you watch some of the clips of the real lady that she played, Theron played this character to a "T" possibly with more depth than the actual woman.

That's true - they showed Wuornos trial on tv recently and she copied all the moves perfectly.

.
I've seen both of these movies and I absolutely LOVED "21 grams" - however you need to check out Theron's perfomance in Monster. She OWNS Watts in this regard.
