Algeria Ice Hockey Jersey - Want one? ;)

I came over this while searching the french ebay for hockey jerseys;

the Algerian National Team's hockey jersey...

http://cgi.ebay.ch/Algeria-Ice-Hocke...QQcmdZViewItem

I think that's quite interesting, I didn't even know they play hockey down there...

Nice.

I like how they use the Hockey Canada player sillouette on their jersey as well!

I have to admit, that's pretty sweet.

The one I really want though is this one, the Irish National team.

I'd actually prefer the dark one, but that'll do.

Neither did I! And I lived down there for 9 years!

Must be fake.

I doubt it's fake. You never know, i mean i never thought anyone in India played hockey but then i read a story about some dudes by the Himalayan mountains that play some good old fashioned shinny.

its great to see hockey becoming popular all around the world , especially in places like Algeria or Greece where you probably would never expect it.

edit: appearantly the jersey doesnt even exist yet, so how that guy can already sell it... I dont know.
But it is a prototype as you can see here:

Hi all, yes that is the official jersey, the people who won the auctions on ebay will get the same jerseys from the players batch.

If you'd like 1 order now and you'll receive it as part of the players batch.

There is algerian ice hockey, we are working with the government and the IIHF to develop the sport. The IIHF have sent us an application to become a member and we are currently working to fullfill the requirements.

We have games scheduled against the luxembourg national team, and there will be an arab cup of ice hockey in june 2008 in abu dhabi city, involving algeria, morocco, UAE and kuwait.

from that website:

"Algerian Ice Hockey Federation History
Established in 2006 as the Algerian Ice Hockey Association, and in 2007 changed to the Algerian ice & Inline Hockey Federation, it continues to progress in its quest to make Algeria a hockey nation.

Algeria doesn't currently have a rink, but one is expected to be built soon with a development by the Arab Emirates companies, possibly in the ski resort of Chrea, Blida.

Team Algeria is made up of players who are either born in Algeria and trained abroad, or are born in other countries but have Algerian parents. Currently they have players based Canada, France, Belgium, Sweden, Germany and UK.

The most notable player of Algerian origin is Josef Boumedienne, who's mother is Finish and Father Algerian, Boumedienne has experience playing in the best league in the world, the NHL, and has signed next season with NHL's Washington Capitals. Team Algeria has a good group of players, including promising teenagers, Yassine Fahas and Kevin Benchabane who already have experience in the top league of France."

Thailand has an international hockey team. The last I remember hearing about them, they were hammered 52-1 by Kazakhstan.

He has signed a 500k contract with washington capitals, was expected to make the line up but the D in washington was very competitive in training camp and he was assigned to hershey bears in the AHL, I think he'll get a call up at some point in the season.

So when you say the most notable player of Algerian origin is Boumedienne does that mean that he will get an invitation to the Algerian National Team and is he even eligible for you guys?
IŽd love to see this whole thing happening because you guys are basicly and literally stomping this whole project out of the sand.
Youve got my respect.

he has agreed to be involved in the algerian national team however we're not sure which capacity yet.

he has given permission for us to sell algerian jerseys with his name and number 78.

his reason for wanting to be involved is that all his family from his fathers side still live in algeria.

oh and by the way, when you get approved by the IIHF, where will you start off? will you be in the C-Pool or is there like a qualification round for the C-Pool? or is there maybe a D-Pool?
Im not too familiar with the lower systems in the IIHF
