morrisonn has much more upside than jurcina, but jurcina looks to be a guy that may play for 10 years and not get noticed all that much. actually, you'll notice him b/c he's very big (not all that physical - like hal gill in that way), but he projects as a safe stay-at-home type whose upside is a #4 at best IMO. i think jurcina will wind up as a 3rd pairing guy, but it seems like he'll be a good pro. he's not a slow-foot either, which is good for a guy his size. morrisonn is a wild card - a guy who has the talent to eventually become a top pairing Dman (good wheels, good offensive instincts), but one who i believe will settle in as a top 4 guy (but not a top pairing guy). the knock on morrisonn was that he didn't have great hockey sense, but i haven't seen that since his recall. last year, he looked totally lost in his brief call-up, but he's been awesome so far this season. very proactive on the ice. while growing pains are inevitable, there's a good chance that he's here to stay.

I was at the game last night in Buffalo .. Morrisonn was the Bruins best defenseman .. Sullivan probably thought so to as he was on the ice for 2 of the last three minutes ..
In addressing the original question .. A month ago I would have said Jurcina .. But now definatly Shaone .. I think he's seen the last of Providence ..

I agree that Morrisson will not be sent down to Providence again. He has seized the opprtunity given to him by the call-up.

Seeing that Morrisson has earned his roster spot with the Bruins, what happens when Moran comes back from the ankle injury? Does he become a healthy scratch or does Sully play him on the fourth or even third line (Moran has experience on wing) or does MOC move Moran or a UFA like McGillis at the deadline?

Morrisonn should be the better of the two. Juricina is good though, i got to watch him a bit here in halifax for a couple years (improved quite a bit in the time he was here), the thing i like about him the most is how he steps up his game in important situations - he was fantastic in the playoffs last year for the mooseheads (pretty sure he got a hat trick in the first game). If the bruins depth on the blueline can let him play on the third pairing they should do well. this is looking forward quite a bit but in a few more years it would be nice to see something like this:
stuart ?
boynton morrisonn
jillson jurcina
...i may be over projecting stuart but i think its fair to project him as a top 2 defenceman. It'd be nice if we could ever get Lepisto in this years draft.

Honestly, you Pens fan(s) treat Moran like he's the anti-christ. He's not been anything spectacular for the Bruins, but he's been a steady and reliable 3rd pairing Dman for us when he's been healthy. Was he really THAT bad in Pittsburgh? He couldn't possibly be worse than some of the people you have on your team now...

haha he could definately play here now....but that is how bad our mgt. is...i honestly thought he was not that bad but he wasnt an every day player. I thought he was valuable in that he could play on O or D was good but IMO opinion he was really bad...a good clubhouse guy but not a good hockey player....i hope is playing spectacular because he was a good guy...i dont get to see much bruins hockey here

I take Morrisonn on this Bruins team anyday over the little I saw of Jurcina.

Remember- Jurcina is a redundant type D man on this team (big, stay at home), while the team really needs puck moving D men that can skate (like Morrisonn).

Maybe another team would find Jurcina a better fit, but Mo looks like a lock on the big team here if he can keep up his play.

As for Moran, he may be one of the better D men on this team as far as making a good first pass up ice- and the B's need as much of that as they can get. -Piels

Morrisonn is already one of the Bruins' better defenseman.

Jurcina is a potential top four NHL defenseman. Since he flashed some offensive skill at the junior level and continues to improve in Providence, it should be interesting to see what kind of player he becomes. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/player_b...53&hubName=BOS

one of my best friends who I go to about 15 games and was an outstanding college defenseman is all over the Broons defenseman both good and bad and says this about Morrisonn when we have watched the games. Outstanding lateral skating that should prevent the likes of Simon Gagne and the Martin Havlets from ever beating him wide. He is also gangly in a good way to not get beaten inside out very often from the Ziggy Palfy's of the world. He MAY have a bit of trouble with a power forward type like a Tkachuk or Bertuzzi steaming to the net but that should be nullified or improved on in time. I can see him grabbing or enveloping that type of player with that huge wing span.

He is very swift and quick for a big man is huge and probably the reason the Broons fell in love and went with him that high. They saw the skating and the size and talked to him and figured he has the mental makeup. Thats really the third compontent out of four that I look for (size, skill, hockey sense/smarts, desire/determination). Listening to him he has confident and wants it- he doesn't or didn't take well to being sent down and feels he belongs in the NHL- great if you ask me. His hockey decision making process is what we need to watch because the other three are apparent to any hockey observer.

Time is the key with him- time to fill out and get stronger, time to experience different situations on the ice, time to mentally mature with alot of money and being young; time as in a long season that will have ups and downs.

I really, really like this kid- I see him as a player who should have one loooooooong NHL career and be no worse than good. He's a keeper and a tremendous pick from what I have seen and heard.

As for Jurcina- I have seen him in person a couple of times play and since I'm no scout or basically have a clue rely on others and one hockey watcher tells me he thinks he's a heck of a talent and when he gets up to the NHL speed could be a player. Not sure on his quickness along with hockey smarts/decision making but reading posts on him it sounds like he has it- but really not sure.

Juricina may be big but he can move the puck quite well, he makes great breakout passes (at least he did in junior).
